umm, the department of defense doesn't usually do independent analysis. by dumping him in the ocean asap, there is no shrine or artifacts for the faithful to rally around. that said, true believers don't need such a shrine.

There's no way they'd be stupid enough to pronounce him dead and claim to have the body if we didn't. All it would take is one video tape and everything goes to hell. As for his body, I don't care, he is dead and that's what matters. Whether they performed a burial at sea or not, we wanted to display a care and respect for Islam, which will hopefully alleviate a bit of backlash.

It's interesting that we'd feel the need to stick to Islamic tradition when Islam (the mainstream version of it and not the radical version of which OBL was a part of) pretty much disowned OBL and said that he was not a true Muslim.
