That's exactly what ClearType is supposed to do. Have you run MS' ClearType Tuner?

It could be your selection of Fonts as well.
I've never seen an issue.
* Apple generally believes that the goal of the algorithm should be to preserve the design of the typeface as much as possible, even at the cost of a little bit of blurriness.
* Microsoft generally believes that the shape of each letter should be hammered into pixel boundaries to prevent blur and improve readability, even at the cost of not being true to the typeface.

Wolf is saying that he prefers Apple's sub-pixel rendering technique to Microsoft's ClearType technique.
In Windows 7 you can get the fonts to render awfully similarly to the way Apple does it since they have the nice little ClearType Wizard. However, it seems that the OP is on XP, and so I have no idea what could give him what he is looking for.

you got the first part right.
but I am on vista. I know about the clear type wizard here
http://www.microsoft.com/typog...rtype/tuner/step1.aspx
and i have turned it on, but it seems that vista already has it.
but still the font rendering in safari and firefox on vista is different. I'm wondering if I can have safari style font rendering in windows
Windows Font Rendering
Safari on Windows now uses Windows Standard fonts to deliver a more consistent experience. You can also choose to use Apple fonts. Thanks to the anti-aliasing algorithm in Safari, you enjoy crisp, gorgeous fonts. The algorithm preserves the subtleties of each font while rendering each character with a crispness that makes your favorite sites a pleasure to read.

I think he does use Safari. It seems he wants Apple font rendering system wide in Windows.

can you have OSX like font smoothing in Windows ?
for some reason I like the OSX font smoothing really good to read.
I know safari can do that, but what about all of Windows ?

I'm talking about the OSX type Font smoothing, which apple uses in Safari 3 by default on windows.
