I'm not trying to advocate the use of it myself either, I just think this could be interesting. Also I haven't actually used it either, I just think it could be another alternative to rather than another Windows OS for x86 architecture machines. I personally run all OSes right now and each one has it's place, I use daily BeOs pro, XP Pro, Linux, NT and Mac OS 9.1.

I use Os X and I love it. First of all it is a great looking system. It is MUCH easier to use than windows. Things are in natural places. Things aren't confusing like they can be in windows. It has a lot of "features" that are pretty pointless but still very cool and i'm glad they are there because they have some use. It has a strong set of utilities. Things that used to be shareware or freeware apps are now comonly integrated into the OS. It connects to all sorts of networks extreemly well. It is an *nix OS so it has a command line and all of the power associated with it.

Best of all is that it is super easy to use. It barely ever takes more than a couple of clicks to do something. Oh and it runs all of Apple's iApps (iPhoto, iTunes,iMovie,iDVD) plus DVD studio pro and Final Cut pro. Oh, and when you use it you are a part of the Mac community (which has some really great people and barely any morons).

I personally don't want OS X on the x86. I already have a mac. If it was ported, the mac market would suffer with all of the same crap that x86 experiences. Apple has a complete system. They control all parts of it so it works flawlessly.

there does not exist a mainstream OS that can not perform the functions that another mainstream OS can perform either through third party software or the OS itself. whats great about Mac OS in my opinion is that a lot of it IS built into the operating system. LaBang mentioned some of the software that comes packaged with Mac OS X. its pretty powerful software for free. the biggest thing for me about Mac OS X is the interface. its beautiful and makes computer use really enjoyable for me. XP in my opinion did a lot to copy the OS X interface and failed miserably. they went for rounded, glassy widgets but it only looks good when its enlarged so it looks bulky and toy-like. some people dont care so much for the interface. its really a personal opinion.

I thought they were all morons...that's why they make it so easy to use

In all seriousness, OSX is a very good looking OS that's quite responsive and powerful. Personnally, I'm a FBSD user and probably will be for quite some time, however my girlfriend has a G4 TiBook and I must say, its the first mac I enjoy using. I'd love to see this OS for x86, but don't think I'd pay money for it

Cheers!

I don't think Apple can manage to port it to x86, but I would be nice. I don't think I would trade my ion-windowmanager for it...

OSX is a good OS, and it has been selling as a paid OS. Now, since there is money involved here, sooner or later, it will drive the availability on x86 IMHO!

Doubt it, Apple makes a lot of money on the hardware, they won't give that up.

i agree. if apple really wanted their softeware available to everyone else you would see smaller applications run on x86 like iTunes so the iPod could interface with x86 systems. apple is based on the full package of hardware and software together.
