For $399, you get a tower computer with the following specs:

- 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- 2GB of DDR2 667 memory
- Integrated Intel GMA 950 Graphics
- 20x DVD+/-R Drive
- 4 USB Ports
- 250GB 7200RPM Drive

Many of the components can be upgraded, however. For example, the graphics card can be updated to a GeForce 8600GT 512MB for $155 more.

With apple's history, there's no way this company will be around long

If they didn't offer the OS X install option, I think they'd be fine. But it's the fact that they will install a copy of OS X for you that's going to cause them to run into trouble.

BTW that $399 price does NOT include Leopard install (which they priced at $155). Add another $10 for Firewire and $69 for iLife you're looking at $633, which is already more than a Mac Mini. Granted, it's a 2.2 vs. 1.83, but the MacMini only requires 110W of a power supply whereas that "beast" has a 350W PSU, so if you're all for quieting and power-efficient computing better start looking elsewhere.

well I don't think its market is as much to replace the mini, more a middle step between the mini and the pro (a mini with video and big hd)

Pretty good value. Yeah, it costs more than the low end mini if you give it those features, but it's quite a bit more capable than the $800 mini and you can upgrade it yourself (which saves you yet more money if you were planning on doing that with the mini). Simply the fact that it ships with 2 GB of RAM when it costs $100 extra to get that in the mini (an insane price) is nice. And then you have the upgradable nature of it and the fact that it can fit full-size hard drives.

This is basically the computer everyone wants Apple to make but they refuse to make. So another company has stepped up and done it.

I personally hope Psystar takes down the option to preinstall OS X, though. I want them to be able to stick around and provide some incentive for Apple to quit price gouging.
