What a coincidence that I just come back from getting several deals (that were posted on this forum) and then reading this thread.

I just got back with the following deals on a single trip:

Office Depot: 2 x Motorola T6300 2-way radio @ $24.66 (-$10 coupon and 2 x $25 MIR) = $10 I pocket (eventually)

Circuit City: 3 x Joystick @ $0.01 (yes one cent each) = $0.03

Blockbusters: 3 x PVD Movies @ 7.99 = $24.00

Staples: 1 x Kodak DC3400 Digital Camera @ 299.99 - $100 PM - $40 Coupon - $100 MIR = $60 (and I don't live in Seattle)

I love this forum. Thank you to all the people who contribute.

The ironic thing is you see item X for $200, and you can't justify the cost. Then you find a deal with item X for $100 so you go for it. Are you up a $100 or down a $100? Possibly down a $100 since you wouldn't have bought the item until you saw the deal. You're better off finding a deal on something you are going to buy regardless if you can find a deal for it.

Well I don't see where the effort is in getting these hot deals; download a coupon code, go to the store and get it PM'ed. It doesn't seem like a lot of trouble to me, but then again i never do any of that, because I absolutely positively detest MIR's, and I don't have a car so I can't go driving around town to get stuff PM'ed. Pretty much everything I buy is online.

With the little effort involved, I'd say the Hot Deals forum is worth it, for most of us I would think that the time spent on the forums is time you wouldn't be doing anything productive in the first place, so it's not really time that is being squandered.

And obviously saving money is a good thing (but there is a difference between saving money on something you would have purchased anyways, and buying just because something is a good deal, that's another thread altogether). Any of you punks that make too much money and don't bother to save any of it are silly to waste money.

BTW, I think this is post #200 for me. I'm a senior now!!

I usually check out this forum while at work. This is how I kill time at work. Sometimes here does have some good deals. Ofcoz, you cannot "request" a hot deal but just waiting for them to come! I do enjoy taking advantages of the Hot Deals here. It sure feels good when you pay $5 for a $100 SB sound card in market price.

Since when do you have a job that pays $40 an hour at 3:30 at night? Thought so. I love calling Staples CSR's in the wee hours of the morning. I look at it as a hobby as well. Hell, it may be expensive, but, oh but.

A penny saved is actually 1.5 cents earned, because of income and payroll taxes. In any case, I'm in it for the thrill of the hunt. Also, spending time hunting for deals means I don't have to regret paying too much as often as I would if I didn't shop around and do my homework. Nevertheless, this is loads more fun than most jobs.

I love this forum because you find out what's good and what's not, then make a killing on buying it!! Cameras, speakers, used car parts, computers, etc. you can learn a lot about what to buy and what not to buy.
<Still love my Grado SR80 headphones,BTW.> I'm also impressed how some of you squeeze a deal. There are some master deal sharks here!! I don't spend a bundle for junk anymore like i used to, and keep a photocopy of the upc's!!

Don't when I begin to buy some "not very useful" stuff, and have to upgrade my PC, .... without extra cost.

I think this is really at the bottom of the original poster's question. While most of us are doing this in our spare time (either while working or not), some of us are addictive to forums like this, and post instead of studying or being "productive"...

So for those of you that are in that situation, is "it" worth it?

I could be wrong. =)
