Hey Guys,

I'm spending WAAAAY too much time and effort getting these "Hot Deals." Sometimes I feel like it ain't worth the savings. (HAHA--spend money to save money . . . )

So--stop posting these tempting red hot deals please for my sanity!

Hypothetically, if a job pays $40/hour, would you still do hot deals?

Everyone's time is worth something. In fact, how we spend our time is what's important in life. Even if your time is not worth very much dollar-wise, you can use your time to read, attend classes and learn, so that your time becomes more valuable to employers.

I never knew how much stuff I needed until I started lurking here. Besides, this hobby/addiction has pretty much paid for itself with the occassional exceptional deal that allowed me to profit as well as get something I wanted.

I love this place

this thread just wasted my time. so as i see it, you owe me money...

btw, anandtech has a great OT forum. I wonder why more and more people choose to just put OT before their thread rather than letting there be a nice discussion in OT that wont get locked.

yup..yup...i have thought over those lines.i bet most of us who try to save $20 on some item by trying all kinds of gimmicks ... would spend it in a few hours on a weekend.

But its the "thrill of making a kill" that make you a "HOT-DEALS" frequent flyer

I have a friend who recently left a job in which he was making over $100/hr.

Said friend still collected pirated software like it was going out of style, 99.95% of which he never used, simply because he liked getting things for free. He also stretched every dollar spent on hardware/software until it squeaked, because the more he saved on each item, the more he could spend, and the more stuff he collected.

Were I making even 1/5rd that much, which would be _way_ more than I'd need to get by happily, I'd be just like him. Why pay extra when you don't have to? Money you save on parts/software can be spent on more parts/software, or other things.

Hot deals are worth any intelligent person's time.

Your jobs pay more than $40 and $100 per hour? Do you rob banks or something? If it's legal, could you tell us how to earn that much? (so we can get more hot deals)

It's not really that hard to make 40 - 100$ an hour doing a legitamate job. Take any persons approximate yearly salary, divide by 2,000 and you have there approximate hourly wage.
"Starting compensation for lawyers at this experience level [4-9 years] within midsize firms -- 35 to 75 attorneys -- is expected to range from $84,500 to $161,750, an increase of 8.1 percent over last year, the survey says."
So lawyers make about 40$ to 80$ an hour! Not too shabby for only three years of graduate school!
"An average of medical doctors' salaries in this country was recently announced at about $115,000. The M.D. has four years of college, four years in medical school, and four years internship, or a total of 12 years higher education ."
And if you're concerned with doctors making too much, they have 8 years after undergrad, and make an average of 57$, so piss on the lawyers not the doctors (I'm becomming a doctor).

Money can't replace the pride of getting a great product at a fantastic
price There is nothing in the world like discussing what a great deal
you got on your flight from your window seat with someone who paid
three times what you paid :Q

Interns get a small salary (usually about 30-40K) for those four years after med school, don't forget...Also, if you become like a cardiologist, anesthesiologist, brain surgeon, or something else up there you can be getting a 400K + salary per year. Of course those doctors are usually harder to find because they have to go through more schooling, but they'll be helping save a lot of lives as well.

But nonetheless, deals are deals..."a penny saved is a penny earned" This forum is awesome, and even though I have MCATs this coming saturday, I still spend my study breaks in this forum Keep the good deals comin!

I generally don't bother with "deals" that are only a "deal" because of a mfr's rebate.

I find it just too much trouble to wait the usual 6 to 8 weeks (more often than not it turns out to be 6 to 8 months with several phone calls).

Only once did the rebate arrive withing the specified time (a US Robotics modem).

Try being a Dentist. My bro is one, works 29 hours a week, never works on Fridays, and TAKES HOME over $200,000 per year from his practice. No life or death crap (usually), no suit & tie. Tough job. I slave for $90,000,and would have loved to go into it, but me and blood don't mix too well. Even though we make decent ching, both of us still love the thrill of the kill......getting that killer deal. Bragging rights on a good product for free/nearly free are always welcome.......

poor me, I'm just a lowly intern. What little I get paid ($19/hr) has to go toward college...this forum is making me broke.

I agree. I make a bit more then $40/hour, legally mind you...But I still love getting in on a good deal..

The funny thing is though, i will go to new york city on friday night and blow $10 on one beer, and end up about $150 spent in a few hours, and then it doesnt matter.

So you see it isnt about saving the money, it is about getting a deal... Ususally it is things that I will use once and never again, or even worse NEVER use at all!
