Regarding the differences between credit cards and debit cards: even if the debit card issuer says you have the same protection against fraudulent charges, the big difference is that for a credit card you can dispute the charges first. With a fraudulent transaction on a debit card, your money is already gone and you have to fight to get it back.

Okay I just checked my credit card account (being the paranoid person that I am) and saw that everything is still in order. Thanks for the post though ... haven't been charged by strage Russians or Bulgarians yet.

I have a Visa debit card through B of A (Bank of America), and i have had to dispute a few charges. To them its no big deal. After disputing a few charges, they told me to cut up my card, and they would send me a new one. Anyway, i have never had to pay for a charge that i disputed. So I have the same protection as a regular CC.

I think it's from a game called Zero Wing. It's a japanese game that got translated very badly. Please let me know if I'm wrong. A friend just sent me the link on somethingawful.com and I didn't get a chance to download the emulator version.

I agree...avoid debit cards even ones with visa logo. Why?

1)Because most of the cards are tied to checking accounts, where you pay your bills out of. In that account if you don't catch it immediately or have a bank that is suspicious you don't catch it til checks are bouncing. Actual money gone from account you need to live on.

2)It generally will take 10 business days to get your money back from the bank...they will send an affidavit form you fill out and return within the 30 day period or they reissue the charge.

3) CC's have 60 days to dispute and you are not ever really dealing with actual money (like debit) until you have to pay it back. You can generally get it fixed within a weeks time before you ever get into another billing cycle.

I had someone get ahold of my debit card visa number from using it at a gas station that still made carbon copies. They bought expensive pagers and phones for the tune of 493.00 then did it again for another 493.00 then tried it again but at that point my account was down to 200.00 so they stopped. Luckily I had plenty in savings to cover bills until I got the bank to reissue the money back into account. I new it was the gas station as it was in an area I never go except that once and the stuff was bought 2 blocks away. Cops did nothing, manager investigated it and fired the guy under suspicion.

can someone provide a link to where I can download the ROM for this game? I have not been able to stop laughing ever since I watched that hilarious piece that Richter let us see.

Thanks!

One card I would recommend is the Blue from American Express.

They give the option to have a brand new credit number for online transactions. You can also set the limit on them. They can only be used once and only for the amount given. After the transaction is completed, the number dissapears. You can get that for any online transaction.

This way, no one "has" your credit card number and you are protected..

Neat, huh?

Also for students, the Amex Optima card is going to be a blue amex card by end of march. Enjoy =)

After some clown lifted my Visa and used it for a site I devised a better way of ordering on the internet. First off I got Amex Blue and use direct payment which gives you a different number for each purchase and the number can only be used one time. If I have to use my Visa on a site that stores my number I go back to the site after the shipment is made and edit my card number out of the stored information.
What we need is an organized movement to stop internet business sites from storing credit card information since it is obvious that they can not secure the information.

What is the deal with $493!? Is it a common number in the fraud circuit?! I mean, first you have Blain saying that someone tried to send $493 to Bulgaria. Then there's Duvie's tale of someone buying pagers, etc. to the tune of $493. Sheesh.
