OT: Deal on a dual slot 1 mobo.... for crack racks?

I have one of those motherboards right here at home; I've had it for a while, but haven't yet set it up with any cpus. The big problem is locating a pair of "same stepping" cpus in a Slot1 factor in the upper-end ranges of cpus. I'm going to try using some slotkets on mine and a pair of FCPGA chips to keep the cost down. As a comparison, for the price of a pair of p3-866's in a slot1 config, I can get 1.7 GHz p4 chip AND board.

kinda but not quite OT, what is the fastest 100mhz fsb p3 flipchip? I want to put 2 in my duallie with slotkets but I cant go higher than a 100mhz FSB.

Edit:Are the 750s 100mhz? They are pretty cheap(~90 each) I would think they are since 750/133 is ~5.6 or something.

Looks like the fastest flip-chip Pentium 3 based on a 100MHz fsb is the 1.1 GHz: Intel S-Spec chart

edit: the 750 is based on 100MHz.

Has Intel actually released a P3 faster than a 1Ghz? I know that they released the 1.133 about a year about and had to recall it.

To answer the question at hand I know that Intel makes up to a 1ghz P3 on a 100mhz fsb... Not that I have any or anything like that. But i have seen them around.

heh, I just drove to compusa curious as to how much it would cost me for a couple piiis. I figured it would be kinda high, but I am one of those people that doesnt mind paying "alittle" more to have it right here, right now. before I left, I pulled up pricewatch and priced 1 gigs at $172. I went to best buy and the want $387 each? WTF? I asked the guy if that was right and he was like, yeah, its alittle high, but we buy the chips and then add our margins. That is SOME friggin margin. I guess I will be buying mine online. Oh well.

This motherboard would really be a consideration for someone who already has a couple intel processors or is able to pick up a couple for a cheap price. The fact that you would only need 1 psu, keyboard, floppy, nic and video card would save you some money and a bit of space.

Make sure you're comparing apples to apples and not apples to oranges!

I see the price on PriceWatch for the 1 GHz PIII at $172(w/o shipping) - that's also for an FCPGA version of the chip. Look closer for a Slot1 version and you'll find it at $219.00(w/o shipping). I'm betting the CompUSA price is for the Slot1 version - probably old stock at the old price(and old cost) before the flip-chip became the mainstay.

I checked locally(on a Sunday) and most places don't even have the Slot1 in stock, nor will they special order it. One place(a local store) will order it for me and quoted a price of $280.00 each - some markup, though not excessive.

It might have been for a slot one but there sign said socket 370 cpus above it. But then again, this is compusa so they might have just listed the slot 1 under it.
