LOL, try taking a small 8 point (145lbs.) running at 650 yards in the brush country around San Saba TX with a .223 with a 6x scope, anyone who says that doesn't take skill is crazy. My proudest kill, plus since it was a young buck...talk about tender, we ate that deer within one week of processing it. The best cut oddly enough was the quarter rump roast, a friend of mine came up with a recipe from his grandfather that had you smoke it for 36 hrs while marinated in Italian dressing, the meat had literally fallen off the bones before it was ready to eat. Sure wish I could try that recipe again, but I keep screwing it up and drying out the quarter. I grew up a farm boy, where hunting is something done as a family thing, the self-esteem from taking a wild animal and thanking god for the ease of recieving food today is very satisfying. That's why there are so many ranchers starting hunting clubs for kids in Dallas and Austin to teach the kids of the next generation pride, and family values that currently being lost today. There are too many families with fathers either not there or not interested in spending time with thier kids. I'm not saying hunting is for everyone, but outdoor activities are being lost, fishing is another simple cheap way to spend a weekend at the lake, even if you don't take an animal or catch any fish its not the 'catch' that makes the weekend its the family time that makes the difference. If not for fishing and hunting I guarantee I'd be doing drugs right now, wouldn't be the christian I am today, and because of my hobbies, I've even gotten 4 people to stop doing pot and get into bass fishing. I pray that they continue to spread the hobbie and stop more teens from doing the same.
Just my 2 cents, but I could go on and on about conservation efforts and the family values associated with outdoor activities.
