You know how they are always having LAN parties in different locations. What would be the possibility of a DC get-together? And while it would be interesting for everyone to bring their crack-racks ( /me shudders at the thought of having to lift my machine again), 10 people sitting around watching numbers go higher on there screens doesn't even appeal to me (slightly, but not really; and I'm in the Navy, so I can't do the things that would make that interesting).

But what about a LAN party? Anyone willing to attend something like this, if we can get atleast a few people together in local areas, it would be cool.

Just a thought.

EDIT: Me, I'm in South Texas.

EDIT: Or maybe even some internet game... Get everyone online, and kill each other kinda thing. UT2004, or Guild Wars or something...

There have been a couple regional LAN parties in the past that some of the DC folks got together for.. most memorably, were a couple hosted by RaySun2Be at a former employer's company in Columbus, Ohio as well as one hosted by Wolvie in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.

It's been a while since we did one of those.. hmm.. actually, we were mostly playing Unreal Tournament so that gives you an idea on how long ago. :Q

I live in Grand Rapids, MI and didn't mind driving around 7 to 8 hours each way. But I'm nuts.

Sitting around with a bunch of you, "ooooh'ing" & "aaahh'ing", watching myF@H process go up by 1% every hour... ya just can't beat that for fun!

I guess that why they make  & :wine:

I've always thought it would be fun to get together with some of the group but i haven't been anywhere lately & i don't think there's anyone within probably a 2-3 hour drive near me, as far as i know.

I've never been much of a LAN party gamer. Usually i just play against the computer. My nephew used to have LAN parties with his friends but i think i would of been killed instantly after watching some of them play.

I host a couple of LAN parties a year here in Southeastern PA. Nothin beats yelling across the room at the guy you just fragged or the guy who just fragged you...

I remember back when we were playing UT with some of the guys here on the DC forum.

Given the distance between most of the forum members, I don't think a physical LAN party would be practical but we could probably pull off a LAN party over the Internet.

I'd be up for playing some UT2004 if we can get enough people. Anyone out there have a fast Internet line to host the server?

That sounds good. How fast of a connection is needed / ideal for that?

Southeastern PA, cool!

I haven't been to a LAN party in years... mostly because my gaming tastes tend towards RTS and MMORPGs, I just never had the reflexes to get really leet in the FPS realm. The last LAN party I was at was at my buddy's house in South Philly about 4 years ago where a bunch of us played Starcraft until 6 in the morning, but he's long since moved to Miami

This might sound kind of odd, but I've often thought it would be kind of fun just to have a "DC - overclocking" get together where we all discuss our overclocking techniques and build some nodes for a crack rack or something. Maybe turn it into some kind of swap meet, too. Doing serious DC (as I have for almost two years now) is kind of a solitary pursuit and not one easily understood by ordinary people... heck even a lot of serious PC enthusiasts don't know that much about DC beyond what SETI or F@H is.

Is anyone aware of any such gatherings having taken place among the other prominent DC teams? (Ars, 2CPU, BOINC Synergy, KWSN, HardOCP, Free-DC, etc.)

It would be great to join in an internet LAN party. I am in Vancouver, WA. I think the closest person to me is Wolfsraider. Maybe one or two in Portland, OR.
