Hi Guys,

If you bought a system during the MSN deal, please read on.
I've just gotten off phone after a 30 minute chat with a Dell CSR about the MSN 20% rebate promo. He was very persistent in telling me that the promo was ran by MSN, and therefore, Dell is NOT the one ISSUING the REBATE CHECKS. He also insisted that it doesn't even show in the Dell record on whether the system is purchased via MSN ESHOP or just a regular order. Has anyone contacted Dell about his/her rebate status yet? Or if anyone's received the rebate, please let us know WHO issued the rebate check.

My case:
Ordered 11/29
Received 12/5
8 to 10 weeks: 1/24 to 2/7

Zorro,

Would you mind elaborating on what exactly you meant by that? I am not trying to be rude but I believe this topic does concern quite a few people around. If you are one of them, good. If you are not someone who is involved, leave it alone.

Thanks for your prior understanding,

Mark.

I forgot to mention, CSRs are almost always the last to know about what's going on with corporate stuff in companies the size of Dell. I wouldn't take the CSRs 'facts' to really be fact.

I got mine 2 weeks ago. My buddy that had to place his order 3 times (Dell cancelled the first 2) got very lucky!! He got 3 rebate checks!! Got that new loaded Dell for less than $500!!! Don't remember who issued the check but it wasn't Dell or Microsoft but came with a letter from Dell.

Insomniac,

Thanks for the email address. Just got a reply saying that the checks are being sent. And you are right about the CSR's... they are the last resort for anything knowledgeable.

Ordered on 11/29/2000. Have yet to receive a check. I called Dell numerous times upon ordering, and a few weeks later finally got a CS guy who even knew about the promotion. He said he would credit my credit card for the rebate amount to save everybody the hassle. He gave me a reference number and his name.

After reading this and realizing I have yet to see a credit, I called Dell. SURPRISE! The Dell CS was "misinformed." They cancelled the credit he tried to issue. They told me exactly what this thread indicates.

So, we'll see if I get any money.

Another interesting turn: apparently, the 20% rebate only applies to "non-service" parts of the invoice price. Dell considers their 1-year warranty as a separate service line item on their invoice, so the 20% will be calculated on the purchase price - $160.

sjshaw: That is a direct contradiction to what someone else on this board said. He/She stated they got the full rebate on 20% of their total price. In fact, it was even adjusted to include the additional two years of warranty added.

On a related note about the warranty:

Since Dell is not the company issuing the warranty, I was charged tax on my warranty while not paying tax on my system.

Since my CSR had quoted me an exact price, I called up and they credited my the $15 or so. But just a heads-up.

I like Dell very much and think their service is near the top of the industry (which means Dell's service is marginal, while most computer companies are horrid)

Dell does issue the warranty. They charge tax on the warranty as a local company is subcontracted to provide the warranty labor. Of course I got charged tax on my I8000 as well since I live in Texas.

Well, I only know what they told me. Actually, if they don't know what they're telling me, then I guess I can't really say I know it either.

Thats kinda funny

I ordered an Inspiron 3800, and the check arrived couple weeks ago (i ordered December 12th)

Get this though....First time i set up the order, Dells Financing group f@#$ed up, so, the order was auto cancelled (december 3rd). After calling them on the 12th, and complaining whats up, they realized what happened and repushed the order out. THe system was with me on the 21st. So, anyway, my $1400 laptop arrived....WRONG COLOR. No big deal, just a nuisance. Well, i realized I wanted the DVD anyway, so I call up and they're like "Oh no charge, we messed up your order enough to warrant a free DVD Drive, but you're going to have to send the system back". I decided to keep the system, SO, the CSR lady just said "I'm authrorized to give you a $250 credit to your payment plan." I'm like HELL YEAH, i can get the DVD online for $150 anyway. So, i'm happy to get 20% plus $250 back...hehe. Then, it gets REALLY interesting. Instead of my expected $280 check....I GET $560!!! . When i look at the memo line, i see that they counted BOTH orders (the one that had been cancelled and the one i ordered to replace the cancelled one!) Bottom line is that I got a PIII 600, 32 Mb Ram, 14.1" Screen, 10 Gig HD, etc, etc for $1400-$250-$560 = $590 Tell me thats not the deal of the century
Its a miracle that Dell is still in business, considering they're on razor thin margins anyway. I regret not getting that 1% from ebates though, oh well, next christmas.

nodeel...you lucky !@#$%^&! Enjoy your cheap notebook.
The rebate comes courtesy of Bill Gates and not Dell.
Attempted to get some discount on my first Inspiron 4K cuz of dead pixels but got nothing good fm the CSRs...so I just returned it and ordered a new one. I'm glad I did cuz my new one was dead pixel free and a lot better than the first one. I hope I'll be lucky as you with the rebate.

I'm still waiting for mine too and it's not looking good. I just got off the phone
and they gave me that US_Holiday_Promos@dell.com address. I'm just curious: for those that have not gotten their rebates yet, how did you get to the Dell site?

Did you redirect from another web site or did you go to MSN or eShop and click on the deal from there?

I was browsing a well known bargain site and they had the link there. I remember clicking through and then going to the MSN web site and reading all about the passport, etc. I was directed through the official eShop or MSN site though so it should have been picked out.

Basically I followed the rules so I'm going to be pissed if it doesn't work. I even remember seeing the message in one corner telling me to 'click on the MSN passport button' to get my 20%.

Any updates from anyone else?
