OT: My Laptop....

My laptop (Dell Inspiron) has recently stopped accepting power from its AC adapter. I am hoping this problem is simply with the adapter cord (most likely, since it has some exposed and broken wires). Good news is that I got in a chat with a Dell representative, and they are sending a replacement adapter by Tuesday.

The bad news is that the fact that my adapter was working for a few seconds a little while ago, may show that the problem is with my laptops mobo, which seems to happen often, according to the online forums.

Either way, we'll see on Tuesday. I still have about 2.5 hours worth of a charge, so I'll migrate the few important documents I have on to the desktop.

I will try to get the stats done for today, but they will most likely not be done again until Tuesday, or even later if more problems occur. My Rosetta output will drop accordingly.

Ill be around, but not as often.

Ah, I meant to include that. Its an Inspiron 5150 (infamous for overheating, broken soundcards [got that], broken power adapters [plus the section of the mobo that receives power], and random BSODs.)

I have to say, my experience has been decent, but with the amazing experience I had with tech support (they had me with a rep in a few seconds, and the entire diagnosis took less than 5 minutes), I may be contacting them again to get the sound fixed. That is, when I bear with being apart from my computer.

Anyway, I have a LARGE amount of good news.

Upon shutting down with 25% battery left, I plugged the adapter in, to see if any of the LEDs lit. It had a quick orange flash (not good), then a solid green light on the battery indicator (charging). Booting into BIOS found the computer safely charging, and continued booting into windows kept charging, so now I'm back at 49% battery, and very happy. The issue is, if I move the AC power brick around, power will most likely stop flowing correctly.

Ill be around, and Ill be able to do stats, but we'll have to see how long this lasts, and whether it will improve with a new adapter.

Ah ok, I was wondering because I have an Inspiron 6000. Had to get the touchpad and keyboard replaced a couple of weeks after I got it, I was very happy with the service, they replaced it without question. I haven't had any other problems, seems solid so far. Have you had any heat problems crunching with it?, I am wondering whether to crunch on mine..

The 5150s seemed to be the most flakey of the Dell laptops when I worked on them at the computer shop at my university. Shame to hear it's gone to hell for you.

Well, it seems to be working well for now.

oz- My laptop crunches at full speed (P4- 3.06) for as long as it is on (12-16 hours a day). The temperature sits around 65C, but I have not had any heat problems. Your laptop (with a Pentium M if I remember) should be fine. You just may need to run the fan a bit more.
