has anyone had any experience with refurbished mobos from newegg? was it good or bad?
theres the msi 6330 LE mobo for only $55 in the refurbished section. its the cheapest socket a mobo (from a good company) that ive found, it also has onboard sound, something im looking for cuz this is going to be a router/server. im thinking $55 for this +$30 for duron $85 for a nice system.
so do you think its a good deal? how reliable ar these refurbished motherboards?
im really curious aoubt it cuz it seems like a hot deal

Well, I don't know about mobos, but I did buy a "refurbished" Video Card, and believe me, it was brand new. Probably someone who just returned it for one reason or another. I believe they have a 30 day warranty anyway, plus a manufacturer warranty.
If the mobo appears more or less new, and you do a 72-96 hour burn-in test, you should be able to tell if it works well or not. From my own experience, if a mobo works well from the beginning, it will do so for the next 2-3 years; Abit motherboards might be the exception, but I think it's because these poor things are always overclocked beyond reasonable limits by all our friendly Anandtechers
Since Newegg is pretty reputable, I am sure they will either test the refurb boards when they get them (like compgeeks does), or honor their return policy.

I'm not 100% satisfied with MSI... When I updated the BIOS, my SCSI card stopped working - and downgrading fixed the problem.

But, there's still the issue of not having the 686B chipset fix going on.... And, they're unresponsive to my inquiries.

I won't be buying MSI again.

I had one of those MSI all-in-ones. Had onboard video and sound.

It was slower, of course, than brand name boards but it did work ok. Well for awhile It lasted 8 months then died a slow painful death. Windows was giving errors, video and sound went in and out. Then it just... died.

I never bothered with a warranty. I only paid 80 bucks for it, but decided I'll not buy one again. I went through a *lot* of hassle trying to fix the problems, thinking it was Windows, while the board was going in it's 2-month death trip.

I bought an Asus P5A-B from them and everything worked fine. Came in a new box with all packaging, manuals, drivers. If I hadn't paid $50 less than new I would have sworn I had ordered a new mobo.

I bought an EPOX 8KTA3 refurb board from them and it has worked like a dream. I always figure that refurbs have already been to the shop and fixed...so what does it matter!!!

Seems that you have two issues. I can address only one: Refurbed boards, at least the EPoX mb's from Newegg, work perfectly. Would never know that they're not new. Besides, if your board is bad, Newegg's customer service is excellent.

I do NOT like the MSI K7 Master mb I bought new from Newegg. It consistently runs 10 degrees hotter than the EPoX no matter which HSF I use. Stable, but hot... :frown:

I agree, newegg's customer service rawkz..
My epox 8k7a (new, refurbed was out of stock b4 i could get to it) arrived with a non-working agp slot, i got an rma, and they're cross-shipping me a new epox 8k7a while i shipem my old mobo back..

Also, I have bought the msi gf2 pro 64 mb refurbed from newegg, works really well and I saved $25-$30, I will DEFINITELY buy more refurbed parts from'em..

Newegg and Compgeeks are the best places to buy stuff... (refurbed or new)

VERY doubtful. What you're experiencing is much more likely to be a discrepancy in the thermal probe accuracy between the MBs. It is a VERY well-documented fact that those things are very inaccurate from board to board (and especially from brand to brand) and you're better off taking the highest temp reading as closest to the truth. You should be hating your EPOX board for lying to you so badly. Because most likely, it's been giving you a false sense of security while the MSI has been telling you straight. I would rather know my CPU is running hot than have some crap probe tell me it's not as it fries itself to death...

Hey Bellgoody: I've been thinking about buying a refurb K7Master from Newegg. Did it come with the box, manuals, etc? And what revision is it?

Also, anyone else who bought refurb boards...Is it just the board or does it come with all the other 'stuff'.

Thanks!

I bought a refurb KA266 from NewEgg. Looked new, in box with cables, manual. Latest MB rev, latest BIOS. Saved several bucks. I'd definitely try it again from NewEgg.
