OT: Return CPU?

Hi, I know this is an OT.
But I can't find a related section...

Just want to know anyone has ever returned a CPU(has been opened) to Fry's.
Since I just got a *new* retail Intel 2.4B at Fry's on last week, when I opened the box, I found that it had been opened before. Around 10 pins of the CPU are not "standing but lying"!!!

I don't know whether there is a restocking fee. Also, will they accept it since it has been opened?

How long has it been actually since purchase??? I would definitely try to return it. Any item was not stated to be unopened should carry a warranty against this sort of thing....

I have no idea on their policy, but I would try to take it back!

Restocking fees don't apply to defective parts.

take it back, and dont come out until you get a new one
it seems like it should have gone in the "used" section....if there is one...or atleast "defective" or "garbage" heh

hopefully they dont pull a "you did it, you pay for it" on you...

I wouldnt allow them away until it got to the point where i was being arrested and carried away screaming by the police :|

id probably wait for the boys in blue to appear (not when the store is supposedly "calling them"..) and leave on my own terms wtih dignity intact...somewhat..

As long as it is within 14 days and you have the reciept you are all good....one thing you might want to do is test the next cpu before you leave the store....they will do that as long as you ask......I have not had the best of luck buying cpu's there....and if I do I always test them before I leave the store....")

yea, I really think that they will say, "you did it, you pay for it" or "we are just a reseller, mfg provides the warranty, so call Intel"

I don't know that customers can ask for testing items in frys....
hmm....I'm kind of scared of buying stuff in frys now...I think I will simply return it....sigh...

You should be able to tell with the plastic box whether it has been open or not. Intel covers defects in the chip and this sounds like a legit case of previous used selling for new or poor storage by the manufacturer....

It is highly likely Inetl will take care of you if Fryes like the dickheads they are don't take care of it....If they don't I will be totally shocked in their behavior. If they pull that shite above then they are basically calling you a liar. It should be obvious whether or not you fired it up cause if you used the thermal pad it would show on the cpu slightly or the bottom of the hsf. I don't care as much as you clean I can never remove 100% of the AS3...it gets into the edges on the side.
