OT: Shoddy Packaging from Newegg?

I've ordered from Newegg many many times before, and have been very pleased with their customer service, delivery time, prices, and generally their packing.

HOWEVER, I recently placed an order for some memory (Patriot PC3200/4200 XBL), and it arrived yesterday. I picked it up from my receiving room this morning, and was startled when I got it, because I can hear it's contents moving around inside. When the box rested one way, I would hear a "clack" as the plastic would hit one end of the box. When it rested the other way, another "clack" as the plastic would hit the other side. I finally opened up the box to see that they stuffed the memory (which comes in a flimsy plastic shell, and is almost exposed) with one piece of bubble wrap that's no larger than the memory shell itself! If you can imagine two I's where one was the memory packaging, and the other was a layer of bubble wrap, it would look like this: II . To me, that's pretty unacceptable, especially knowing that the FedEx/UPS/Postal workers usually throw around small packages into crates, and such.

I have yet to test the memory, but if it's defective...I'm guessing that something probably happened during transport. It's too bad that I won't be able to test them out until late tonight, or tomorrow night. I'm going to demand that they pay for me to ship them back to them if there are problems. I've had to RMA a few things to Newegg before, and didn't mind paying to ship them, because I assumed that it was probably the manufacturer's fault, but this time is a little different.

Just wanted to rant.

Ummmm....wrong forum, I would have thought someone like yourself who has been here for a while would know better. Hey still packaged better then TigerDirect, I used to put together PC's on the side for people and charge a bit more. The parts that I got were usually Tiger (mistake) Barbones kits, the ones with like 16 rebates. The prices were good but many times I used to get the packages shipped with the memory not wrapped in anything it would be just floating among the sea of styrofoam.

I have noticed some of the items shipped from the east coast (New Jersey?) are not very well packaged and I recently got a FP Monitor with just a label on the unsealed box.

That is how my Samsung 710N was shipped by Buy.com. No complaints here, the package and LCD arrived in perfect condition.

I was taken aback by the way something I received recently was packaged, I think it was a PCI-->Firewire card from Newegg.

I've ordered twice in the last month from Newegg, both from Freemont, CA, and both were packaged well with bubble wrap and foam peanuts in oversized boxes. Maybe the east coast Newegg is having packaging issues?

I've had bad packing from newegg many times in the last year or so at least. Sometimes it's ok, others definately not.

The biggest complaint I have is that they often will stick something in the bottom of the box with no peanuts or anything under it, and too many on top. I know I've had motherboards sent that way with other parts on top of the mobo box with plenty of peanuts on top, but none below.

I attribute it mostly to Newegg trying to cut costs to stay profitable. So they tell their packers to pack faster to get more out the door without having to hire more packers.

i wouldn't even complain if it had something that would have kept the stuff secure inside to keep it from moving, and banging into the sidewalls, and or other products within the box. This box had nothing except one piece of bubble wrap, that didn't really do anything. It was pretty much like if the memory was in the fedex box by itself.

Complaining here won't help. Call or email the shipper so it doesn't happen to others.
