OT - The Macs have been defeated

We did it, we have taken second place in the RC5 overall competition My 219 blocks did us good *LOL*

Obviously, I don't really know what the hell RC5 is, but why does it seem that everyone is gunning for second place? Why not first? :Q

Second has been our goal for the overall stats.Edit- Short term of course

In the daily totals we have been kicking major @ss, but overall /. has an enormous lead on us, in the 100,000,000 block range, while TA breaking ~1.5 million blocks in a day is record breaking(well, not anymore ).

Passing the Macs was a short term goal on our course to attain the position that we should have. We need everyone's help to get by SlashDot before the end of the contest. The "winning" block could be cracked any day, and every day that passes increases the odds that it will be. Every JOIN NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T, we need your help.

To take the #1 spot we need to catch up to slashdot.org , right now they have a 95,648,333 block lead on us (95million) , thats not as bad as it sounds, the team we just took second place from had a 150million block lead on us not too long ago.

I think I'm going to jump on the bandwagon Am I right in thinking this RC5 stuff runs in the background and doesn't slow your PC down? Do you need a fast internet connection?

The client does not slow your computer down, it uses a minimum of memory and is only given CPU time when your computer is idle. I have the client running and am playing Counter-Strike at the same time, it does not slow my CS down. I am running a PII 450 with 128mb ram.

I have got 10 Computers at P3 650 Mhz in my herd and I am in the process putting 50 more online...then another 50 after this. Those computers are Dual P3 800 MHZ computers.

The network usage of RC5 is usually very small and is dependent on how much "work" you download. If you plainning on "flushing" your results and "fetching" more work on a *daily* basis, I doubt it will be more than 500KB. Of course, you can download much more and let your machine chew on it for a few days. Get the picture?

Plus if your worrying about your ping in games getting killed from the program sending stuff, it wont, because the client wont even be running when you play games.

yeah you can set it to fetch and flush just before you play a game if you see that you are almost at the end of all the blocks in your buffers (little files that store cracked and uncracked blocks).
