This thread needed an update.

Buzzback just sent me a couple tiny checks for filling out surveys on some Smirnoff products.
The house is empty, Psycho Killer is playing on a loop, & I see a pint of Ben & Jerry's with my name on it!

Oh, & DanC how you doing baby? We all miss you. Give me a call some time. :lips:

Hmm.. I guess the only good news I have to report is that so far there's no bad news to report.

Have had two kids with a virus infection at home since Monday ...
One is so much better that he can go to school today, the other can go to school tomorrow ...

Looks very good with the new house, Mike! I hope that your family likes it too and that it has better power wiring!
Well done , GeoffS How does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu differ from the Japanese - is this the more dancing one?

Nope... can't remember the name of the dancing one, but this isn't that one. This is derived from the Japanese jiu jitsu, but I'm not sure what the major differences are. There are elements of judo (which I took as a kid), but much of the art seems to deal with grappling and submitting your opponent... arm bars, choke holds, etc. The class is made up of correctional officers, cops, bouncers, and the occaisional computer programmer One of the masters of the art, Carlson Gracie, just passed away. My teacher was taught by Gracie from the age of 15 and was the Brazilian featherweight champion 5 times. Pretty cool, except when your partner doesn't change side for the arm bars during practice... one very sore arm, one fine arm! From what I understand, the US Marine Corps hand to hand combat is largely based on BJJ.

Yeah, thats great and big fun. And yes, it is Capoeira I was thinking of.
Thanks for the "Gracie" link, Freewolf.

I myself train the japanese jiujutsu since a few years ... and so do all my three kids. It is great fun, gives a lot of exercise, good hand-eye-coordination. I did also train judo when in the teens.

Hehe, my hand-eye-coordination only consists of tossing beer caps into my trash can from 6 feet distance and playing FPS shooters

LMAO! ( hard enough that it made me cough my guts up as I have a cold atm )

Good news here........err ,I'm nearly out of the red at long last (since October, longest for me!)
I upgraded my 2nd rig from an XP 2400 @2.13GHz, A7V880 (which I only upgraded a month before from an Abit KT7a) to a Sempron 3100 @2.39GHz ,Asus K8N.
As soon as I get a working decent PSU then I can max out the CPU to 2.7GHz! ,hopefully
My son got an upgrade from a Cel T 1.1@1.3GHz to an XP2400 @2.13GHz,A7V880

New Battle Star Galactica is excellent! (aside from maybe the latest episode)

Btw Judo was derived from Jiu Jitsu ,I'd like to do JJ some day ........

Would be nice to see Danc here again......

Agreed! And agreed... that last one was a bit... off... from the previous episodes and the story line... what a surprise that they found a way to save the president! lol...

Didn't know that! They certainly complement each other though! Several of the throws we've been taught so far I remember from my judo training... then jiu jitsu takes over and you finish them off!

*whisper* don't tell everyone about the president ,it hasn't been aired here in the UK yet! :Q (don't ask how I saw it) ,but yes it was a surprise ,as was the commander of the 'other ship' actually being killed & the little present Dr Balta gave 'that group'! :Q

Btw how fit do you have to be for JJ? ,I'm not overwieght but I am rather 'stiff'

Great! The extra room in the garage will finally give me a place to stay.
Of course you could rent it out, but what would happen to your poor little disadvantaged friend here?

That is not a problem. Just do your warm-ups first. You'll get quite nimble after some time ...

A friend of mine is 210 cm (6 foot 6 inches) and a body mass of approx 250 pounds: at first he felt (and moved) like an minor elephant (his words not mine!). After 8 weeks and 16 lessons (hmmmm, each about 1½ hours long) he gained a lot of speed, became very fast and you never know where he is. With his reach, speed and nimbleness he is just great!

I'm not as fit as I could be... 5'10" 195lbs... a bit flabby and not particularly flexible, my main source of exercise being ice hockey refereeing and walking my Rottie mix (and I stress walking... he needs to smell everything... running is impossible with him), so lower body was okay, upper body was basically ignored... in the 3 months I've been at it, I'm discovering I'm getting more flexible (btw I'm 41 yrs old) and the endurance is getting better too (our teacher uses boxing elements in our training also)... there's a guy that's over 400 lbs in our class... it's all about desire, determination and discipline! Start up and keep with it

Bought 2GB of CVS RAM for $95 shipped via eBay last week.
Got a Western Digital Caviar 250GB SATA HDD for $84 shipped today.
Got a good grade on my first English paper of the semester.
I have $130 burning a hole in my wallet.
My speakers seem to be working much better than before.
I spent some time on cable management with my rig after buying a windowed side-panel for it and it looks very nice now. I am proud of how it turned out.
My computer is working well in general.
I found DIMES as another DC project alongside SoB.
My fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha, got 10 new associate members for this semester, among whom is a friend from childhood that I haven't seen in at least 5 years.
I am finally starting to become satisfied with my computer hardware.
I am done with classes for the day.
It is almost Friday.
It is almost the weekend.
