OT: Visiontek bites the dust? Rebates gone?

While VisionTek experienced some problems earlier this year with financial debt, it was thought that all was going well for this U.S. based company from Northern Illinois. We have come to find out this weekend that all is far from well at one of our fave VidCard builders. It seems as though VisionTek is in utter financial shambles and a trustee has been appointed to come in and liquidate all the assets of the company.

Bankruptcy no. Foreclosure yes. It is understood that the trustee is there in order to recoup as much money from the current VisionTek assets in order to pay back dept to the bank(s) with interest in this matter. So what is seems will happen is that VisionTek will simply cease to exist.

Could it be true?

but its bad news for nVidia, ATI's launching the beatdown one them in the price war and nVidia no longer has channel support with visiontek gone, and creative switching sides. maybe nvidia will end up like 3dfx that they killed and bought

While people not getting their rebates really sucks, I don't see how this will impact nvidia to that degree.
There are plenty of others that can jump in and replace Visiontek.
They were facing new and cut-throat competition form Apollo, eVGA, Palit systems, Prolink, Chaintech, MSI, PNY and all the other countless companies that jumped in the
nvidia video card manufacturering business.
Visiontek did indeed fall it will be that because they can't compete with the cheaper manufacturers.

That sucks!!! I just got my VisionTek Geforce4 a month ago. There goes my warranty. I also have a rebate I'm waiting on. I just checked on www.wheresmyrebate.com and it says my rebate is approved and should be mailed 9-14-02. I hope it comes.

I am sick of all the rebate b*llsh*t.
This is why I stop buying any thing with large rebate.
The geforce 4 was in a bad spot anyway, A geforce 3 can plays all the current games fine, (works great with UT2003 powered games).
And the new ati 9700 kicks the geforce 4 butt.

This is not a good sign for nvidia.
Atlease if you have a rebate from ATI, your most likely going to see it.
I think nvidia needs to focus, Their chipset, nforce, is not selling well and microsft does not want to pay so much for the GPUs for the xbox and now their next video card is coming out late.

I love my geforce 3 (original) but my next card is ATI (9700).
