How does a CVT have paddle shifters?

All 2015 Outback models come standard with the Lineartronic® CVT (continuously variable
transmission), which features paddle-shift control switches

They set the CVT to jump between a set of discrete gear ratios in "sport" mode. I think that Audi might have started doing this with their CVT (called multitronic) about 10 yrs ago.

The paddle shifters won't make it go faster, but they're useful for engine breaking going down the mountains instead of tearing down the rotors.

Went to the stealership to test drive the 2014 Outbacks and what I got out of it was this.

window sticker MSRP = 28,216, windshield Best price = 26,966, truecar.com = 26,512

Sales guy at first was like, our windshield price is our first and best price.. 2hrs into the car talk I pull out the print out and he goes oh yeah we will match that no problem.. DAFUQ eat your own words already.

Then now i'm thinking how much lower can I really go? The car invoice based on my research is 26,412.

Can I ask for below invoice and get away with it?

Keep you all posted.

Any incentives currently? I would think with a new model out they should be dying to sell you something on the lot. Plus there's no supply issues with the Outback so you should be able to do better IMHO.

Zero incentives, only thing for the outback is 0% APR for 36 months.

I think in three to four months they should start seeing the 2015 outbacks flowing in.

Make sure to get all of the post-sticker price garbage laid out as well, that's the last area they can bite you in & they usually try to hold out til the last minute to stack it all in. In my state (CT), that easily adds $2,000+ to the out-the-door price (mandatory factory delivery charge, tax/title/registration, etc.). They can hide a lot of junk in those fees, especially if you beat them up on the sticker price - deposit fees, doc fees, prep fees, etc.

Nearly everything is negotiable, however, so make sure to have them lay out the fees A to Z, and research what is actually required in your state. They can do some funky wording like "destination charge" (required & usually around $800-ish) and also add on "delivery charge", which is just a B.S. made-up dealer fee that you can usually get negotiate out of the picture.

Just plan on getting ripped off when you go in, and then you won't feel too bad about it when it happens Having a Truecar price & having them lay out ALL of the fees before you sign anything is the best way I've found to do it (and usually requires you being on-site because they freak out if you're just price shopping over the phone). I also don't sign anything until the visit after I get all of the fees laid out, so I can review everything & make sure I'm not rushed. I got screwed out of $500 once (that hurt, I learned my lesson!) because I didn't pay close enough attention to what they said vs. what they printed & what I signed (and I won't be using that dealership again!).

So don't freak out about it too much...go in knowing that they're going to do everything they can to maximize profits, and that you've done the best you can with learning the legit vs. BS fees, having a Truecar price, etc. Then drive away in your new car & never think about it again

Quick update... Currently dealing with two dealers. It was three at first but I just ruled one out.
Dealer Invoice is 26,412
1st = 26,412
2nd = 25,412
3rd = 27,412 then quickly matched 25,412. (this was the dealer that I removed from the equation)

So let's talk about the dealer, 1st dealer would not budge at all, no matter how I played my cards. Last night we chatted for 2hrs give or take, and said we will have to think this one out.. (note: this dealer has lifetime car washes and lifetime powertrain warranty - read the fine print and it looked good)

2nd dealer straight out the gate came back with 25,412. So we are going to check with them tonight.

Has anyone ever had ANY luck getting say some all season mats or some accessories added on?

Final report: Ended up leaving the lot (dealer 1) with a Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium Trim with (bumper guard, side molding, and mirror with homelink/compass)
26k+TTL = 28.3k 0% APR for 36months. Very happy with the end result.

I can finally rest in peace now.

Nice! Congrats on the new ride! imo Subaru is the new Honda & Volvo - the reliability & resale value of Honda & the safety of Volvo. Plus AWD & space inside!

Be sure to post pics! What color did you get?

Venetian Red. (pics to follow, webhost is currently down)

Should have got the turbo.

Oh wait.....
This was for the GF not me

I test drove the Forester XT2.0 Turbo, but at a price of 34k.. I'm going to keep my Acura TL and Toyota Highlander for a few more years and wait for the used market and pick one then.

Well there's also no longer an Outback turbo anyway

My now wife bought a WRX while we were dating.

Good job!
Main difference is not the foglights, it's the engine. 2013+ ones have a new one with a timing chain instead of belt.

The belt is so easy to change in a Subaru it's a non issue. That's hardly the best thing about the new engine.
