If you took more than 2 seconds to think about this, you'd realize that the entire issue here is that moral conservatives want to CREATE this definition that you endorse. The absolute truth of the matter, which no rational person can deny (because the fact is there in stone), is that the legal definition of marriage is between 2 people. NOT a man and a woman.

The entire thrust of you and your brethren is to re-define this legal understanding of marriage, in an initial attempt to further de-secularize our constitutional government.

See, you don't even know what your movement is all about.

You BELIEVE that marriage is between a man and a woman. The US JUDICIARY DEFINES marriage as a contract between 2 consenting adults. Bush and your other pals tried to endorse a constitutional amendment to DEFINE MARRIAGE AS BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN.

think about it: Why would anyone propose an AMENDMENT to RE-DEFINE marriage, if their definition were already in place?

think.

maybe think...a little bit more. I'll wait

I know that such activity can be taxing for the "morally superior."

My brethren? lol. I personally don't care if gays marry, not one iota. One of my best friends/former roommate for years, and the drummer for our band was as homosexual as you can get. I don't think the government should have ANY thing to say about who can marry. I just find it interesting that people define things as they would like.

That dammed liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is at it again...

California gay marriages halted again by appeals court; December hearing set

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - A federal appeals court in San Francisco granted a stay Monday that will block gay and lesbian couples from getting married until at least December while a case that challenges California's ban on same-sex marriage moves forward.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted a motion filed by proponents of Proposition 8 to block gay and lesbian marriages for the time being.

The court also set a timeline that calls for a hearing on the case the week of Dec. 6.

In a statement released Monday afternoon, plaintiffs in the case said they are "gratified" by the expedited hearing schedule despite the fact that same-sex couples won't yet be able to marry.

"As Chief Judge Walker found, Proposition 8 harms gay and lesbian citizens each day it remains on the books," Attorney Theodore Olson said. "We look forward to moving to the next stage of this case."

"California voters spoke clearly on Prop 8, and we're glad to see their votes will remain valid while the legal challenges work their way up through the courts," said Andy Pugno, general counsel for ProtectMarriage.com, the defendent in the case. "Invalidating the people's vote based on just one judge's opinion would not have been appropriate, and would have shaken the people's confidence in our elections and the right to vote itself."

Last Thursday, U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker ruled against granting a long-term stay in the case but issued a temporary stay to allow Proposition 8 supporters to appeal the decision.

The temporary stay was set to be in place until 5 p.m. on Wednesday. If the appeals court hadn't granted the indefinite stay, gay and lesbian couples could have begun obtaining marriage licenses after that time.

The case stems from a federal lawsuit filed by two same-sex couples who claim Proposition 8 violates their rights under the U.S. Constitution.

On Aug. 4, Walker overturned Proposition 8, issuing a 136-page ruling in which he found that the initiative violated the Constitution's guarantees of due process and equal treatment.

Dozens of same-sex couples had lined up at the county clerk's office at San Francisco City Hall on Thursday in anticipation of Walker's ruling on the stay.

They had cheered when told that Walker planned to let same-sex marriages proceed, but cheers turned to sadness as they learned of the temporary stay.

At the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center Monday afternoon, there was another wave of disappointment.

"We are really saddened that we're going to have to wait," said Enrique Manjarrez of Equality Action Now. "But we've been here before and we'll continue to fight and go on because we know in the end, we have a just cause."

Edit: Looks like SactoKing beat me to this in the "Judge doubts gay marriage ban's backers can appeal" thread.
