Blue Bonnet She's has a blue-gray color (pic was taken at twilight; not the best of pictures). Picked her up this past weekend out on Long Island. The rest of the goats wanted to go through the pecking order and show her who ranks where. She opted to hang out with the llamas for protection instead. (She can go between the llamas legs, most of the other goats can't or won't)

Also, update to what happened to that maple tree that I cut up in my front yard:
self explanatory The goats ate the rest

Maple tree before

Yummy! Leaves!

Why do llamas always look so happy? It's like they're smirking at you or something. Creepy...

Oh, she's darling!

If I lived in the country, I'd have goats and chickens.

What do you guys do with all of those animals ?

Eat them?
Run a petting zoo?
Raise and sell them for profit?
Or just keep them "cause you can" ?

Yeah, but I usually wear flip-flops in the barn. Kinda sucks when the animals step on my toes (which is daily.) I'll even wear the flip flops when I'm shoveling out stalls. It washes right off. It feels really weird when I enter the chickens' pen and 70 or so chickens swarm around my feet.

The proper name for fainting goats is myotonic goats.

I doubt goats would eat a person. Despite what people think, they're very fussy animals when it comes to food. However, it wouldn't take many pigs to digest a human.

Oh, and waggy, 3 acres would be plenty. The place we went to this weekend probably had about 3 acres dedicated to animals. Their camel had the biggest chunk of it. They had peacocks, lots of fainting goats, a huge variety of other birds (I absolutely loved their red golden pheasants), and horses. Of course, with only 3 acres, you'd have to feed them a lot of hay year round. But, it's plenty of room. Currently (until I get the new fencing in) our females have an area that's about 100 feet by 50 feet outdoors, plus half the barn indoors. They share that with 2 female llamas.

I did a search to find out how you cut that big tree down and found your thread about the "hot chicks". A lot of funny posts in that thread. The goat is cute, but the chicks were cuter.

The meat chickens are absolutely huge. I butchered a couple - tied the legs of on, tossed the rope over a tree, tied the legs of another. Grabbed the super-sharp knife, slit their throats, and accidentally nicked the back of my wrist. So, while I was in the house administering a little first aid to myself, the two bloody dead chickens were hanging in the other tree in front of the house. I'm sure it drew a little bit of curiousity from people driving by.

I'll try to take pics of the rest of the chickens one day soon.

Now your neighbors think you're a chicken sacrificing pagan.

I live in a somewhat rural area, but it's not exactly farm country. My neighbor decided one day he would get a couple of goats. I don't think he thought it out very well because (a) he got two billys, and (b) he tried to keep them in the yard by tying a rope around their neck and the other end to a tree.

Needless to say, the goats chewed through their ropes one day and came sauntering up the street. My son was two at the time and thought it was awesome, especially when one of them took a leak in the road. We tried to round them up and take them home, but of course the goats would have nothing to do with that. One of my other neighbors has a strange sloped yard, so her roof is about 3 feet from the ground in one spot. The goats figured they'd be safe up there, so they jumped up onto the roof.

Eventually we got ropes around their neck and got them home, but it was quite the adventure. The goats were gone by the weekend.

Searchmaster - just 2 days ago, I blundered and left one of the stall doors open. 21 goats and 2 llamas got out and invaded the neighborhood.

tw1164: only 18 acres; not very big, but more than sufficient for what we raise. I'd never be able to do a similar number of horses or cattle for beef.

The part of the tree closest to the road had a lot of dead wood in it. Most of it was trimmed out, but the majority of the weight of the tree was leaning toward the house. Where it branched out, there was a slight split in it. That split had grown noticeably during the past year. The tree might have lasted 2 more decades, or it might have come crashing down on our house this winter if some water inside the split froze. If it was leaning toward the yard or something else, I'd have let nature take its course. When I cut it up, I found at least 3 carpenter ant nests in the tree. We used to see the carpenter ants on our porch every once in a while. Since I finished cleaning up the tree, I haven't seen a single carpenter ant. Thus, in hindsight, I'm even happier.
