Review posted on Yelp for a local bar/restaurant:

Questions to ask yourself before going to Bar Marco...

1. Am I a hipster?
2. Do I love being crammed into a too small space with hipsters?
3. Do I like a place so pretentious that they don't have a cocktails menu but instead interview you on the flavors you like, come up with some concoction, then charge you $12 for a drink (a fact they don't mention when you order) that will literally be gone in 4 sips?
4. Is your idea of restaurant ambiance to decorate with stuff found in the dumpster behind Goodwill?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then this might be the place for you.

it's a review for a hipster bar in your town; how is your town not hipster-friendly (if going by this one review)?

Yeah... topic title and content of OP don't make sense to me. But, it does sound like a fantastic place to nuke from orbit when it's a busy night at Bar Marco.

We get a lot of hipster joint reviews on Yelp. When the places are new, the reviews fawn over how great the places are, then when the non-hipster public shows up, the reviews tend to tank.

I think there are enough hipsters in town to support a limited number of bar/restaurants, the problem seems to be that they are always looking for some place new, and the established places can't survive once the crowd moves on. So the bars come and go pretty quickly.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one finding things not consistent.

I drink $2-$4 PBR's so I can afford $10-$15 craft cocktails. It averages out in the end =P

<---self loathing hipster

don't worry, I do the same thing. 30 pack of PBR so that I can buy a bottle of scotch for a scotch night.

NIN concert followed up by the desire to go to a Built To Spill concert a month later.

so the reviewer is not Bar Marco / hipster-friendly. The town still seems ok with it/them.

Sounds like a dive bar with expensive drinks. I would imagine it's difficult to be a hipster in pittsburg but they are apparently trying.

except a real hipster would never be caught dead in a "hipster" bar... it's too mainstream!

PBR? Pabst Blue Ribbon?

Never understood, nor looked up 'hipster'... refer to the people trying to dress like the Beastie Boys?

Hipsters are the children of the yuppies of yesteryear. Typically white 20 somethings from an upper middle class family that attempt to be ironic through counter culture fashion and obscure references. They despise mainstream and favor independent though, while all looking nearly identical and thinking the same. They are trying to embody the nerds of the 70s / 80s that grew up, went to college, and revolutionized the tech industry; however, they are far less ambitious and their only skills are regurgitating opinions on popular culture they read on reddit. Pretty much the scum of the earth, but we mustn't fear them, as they will all die poor and unknown; just as their "idols" you've never heard of.

Wait, so your town has a hipster bar, but your town is not hipster friendly? Aren't the two somewhat mutually exclusive? Or the hipster bar just hasn't gone out of business yet?

My older brother is a textbook example of a hipster. I hate him.

Real hipsters drank PBR before Dennis Hopper.

#obscurereference?

Drank that shit back in the '60's, but only when we couldn't afford something better.

So.....guess that makes me a hipster before being a hipster was the fad, eh?

PBR? Pabst Blue Ribbon?

Yes, PBR, Pabst Blue Ribbon, one of the definitions of a swill beer, at least in the south. At least, that's the best of what we had for swill. Much like Pearl and Lone Star out of Texas, or Old Milwaukee or Rolling Rock up in the NE.
