look up the MX500, MX510, MX518 model, those have 2 buttons between thumb and index finger. G7, G5 only has one button.

And it's a non-issue. The G5/G7 has two tilt scroll wheel buttons that the MX500/510/518 don't have. Map those and now you have forward and anything you want buttons.

No, at least the 510 and 518 have these buttons also, above and below the scroll wheel. My issues is when gaming, I an accustomed to using these buttons with my thumb for things like reload and pick-up.

It's not that I can't remap those to another mouse button or even a keyboard key, but it's just what I've gotten used to and really feel comfortable with. It all comes down to personal preferences.

No, the MX510 and MX518 do not have right/left scroll wheel tilt buttons. You're talking about the DPI sensitivity and Application buttons.

MX510/518 has an second thumb button and an application button below the scroll wheel. G7/G5 have the right/left tilt scroll wheel buttons to replace them. Coming from a MX518 it took about a day to adjust and find it to better having two more easily accessible tilt buttons compared to the one additional thumb button as I found the application button(remapped) to be awkward to use b/c of it's location down on the mouse on the 518.

But to each their own. I just find it tiring to hear folks complain about the missing second thumb button when you're given the scroll wheel tilt buttons.

I received mine on friday. It is indeed the black/carbon and not teal/silver version. The lack of the forward button is all personal preference. Some will not like it, and some won't mind. Yes, you do have the 2 new tilt "buttons" but it is not the same as the forward button for people used to using that. I haven't had a chance to do a marathon gaming session yet, but I had to change batteries once since I've gotten it. The battery will probably be dead when I get home tonight as the warning was flashing when I left for work. It's not a big deal because it takes 5 seconds to swap batteries and it gives you a warning before it dies.

you'r right, it's all about personal preference. I'm sure i will use the tilt wheel for forward and back and the thumb button for Alt+Tab.... don't really need the tilt since firefox doesn't work with that and i don't do excel.

this is way too low price for a top end mouse..... thank OP again...

I'm confused. Can you show me on a pic which buttons you are talking about on the G7?

At first i didnt know about not having that foward side button but then again i dont use it to much in games since its to far for my thumb to reach anyway.
So i think having the 2 extra buttons using the tilt will be much easier to use.

The scroll wheel of the mouse can tilt left/right and be used as additional buttons when gaming. These buttons(5 and 6) can be reassigned in the Set-Point software.

Ahh..... Ok now I understand. I didn't realize it did that. I guess I could get used to that , but just trying it now feels odd.

for those who are wondering, this G7 mouse is much much better for gaming than the MX1000 that i owned prior. Wireless lag isn't noticable on this mouse at all, while it is for the MX1000.

Hey OP, you might want to add this to the original post.

Buy.com is now using google checkout, what does that mean? It means when you check out, if you use google checkout (option right below regular check out, looks like you can use it as many times as you like), you get a additional $10 off your order, so the final price on this mouse with MIR before tax is $60-$10 (google checkout) - $30 MIR = $20. This is good. :Q

Yeah, I have the mouse and since I use my computer for work, gaming, and watching television, the mouse's charge does not last too long. Thankfully, they give you two battery packs and they charge rather quickly.

I agree with that, this mouse replaced my own MX1000. The battery life on the MX1000 was much better, but I like the interchangeable batteries on the G7 and the fact that you can change the mouse's resolution on the fly.

Apparently there is a $10 off $30 at buy.com if you use google checkout. according to techbargains, it's expiring soon.

My question: get this mouse or get the cordless desktop 3000 laser... anyone?

Out of stock, boo.

Question, If you order through google checkout, you don't seem to be able to lookup the order on buy.com. I ordered the anycom bluetooth headset in this fashion and I can't lookup my order. I think this will not allow me to send in the rebate.
