Out of the three: CoolerMaster 850w, Antec 850w, or Thermaltake 850w

I managed to snag a few of each of the following: Thermaltake Tough Power 850's, Antec 850 Quattro's, and Cooler Master 850 Real Power Pro's.

Now that I have all these power supplies to choose from, trying to decide which is best. One I'll use for my main rig which will either be for 8800gtx SLI or possibly crossfire with 3870x2's for a setup. I have decided because I am trying to find the right motherboard still at the price I want.

So, which is the best to get the job done with the most, stablest, and efficient power?

Jeez, my reading comprehension is really awfull in AM hours. Ok, if he has all 3 inhouse allready, and he can test them, and still return them, then I would try each of them. See which one is easiest to work with, which has the 'ideal' length for the cables, and which one makes the least noise. All 3 are qaulity units, so in the end it doesn't really matter in terms of ripple/stability etc. Unless you can't resist the racing stripes on the Qauttro.

Yes, I know he doesn't have his motherboard yet, but he does have a 'old' pc that he could test them on ? Just load them up running orthos/3dmark06 for an hour and see which fan ramps up the most ...

All are very good.

I have seen some incompatibilities between the Antec and some 8800 G92 based cards. Keep that in mind if your going to SLI two 8800 gtx's.

Why are they incompatible? I still don't understand that unless the PSU isn't providing enough juice to the cards.

As for the deal I got, that 750w you linked to zipzoomfly is more expensive by over double than what I paid for all my supplies I already got my supplies, trying to decide which I want to use most in my main rig. I know they will all work well, but I want to weed out any hours of aggravation of trying to figure out which supply works best for either 8800gtx sli setup.

Also, I know an 8800gtx draws more power than a 3870 card but does it draw more power than a 3870x2?

Wow, awesome deal for sure

I'm not sure about the details between the antec qauttro and their incompatibility with the 8800 g92 cards. Google it I'd say, but there have definately been reports of people with the same combination who couldn't get their 8800's to run properly. And since you own them all allready, and won't be returning them, once again, simply try them ? I'd look for ideal cable length and such. Check reviews to find out which one is the quietest ?

And no, the HD3870 X2 draws more power then a single gtx.

Your probably fine with two GTXs if its a newer version of the PSU but im not sure on how to tell.

Read Neweggs Reviews

Issue

Antecs response
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Antec?s TruePower Quattro power supplies, the TPQ-850 and TPQ-1000 have more than enough power to run an 8800 graphics card and are SLI certified by NVIDIA. The actual issue with the graphics card and System Sentinel is a communication issue. The Supply has plenty of power, but the card is not handling it properly.

This problem is not only with the Antec supply. Other brands of power supply are having these issues as well. There have been reports of power supplies from Corsair, ThermalTake, Enermax, Rosewill, OCZ, XCLIO, and Silverstone not working with these cards as well. I cannot post the links to support all of that, but you can do your own search of " 8800 sentinel PSU " to find them.

Nvidia SLI certified our power supply to work with the cards. Months after the launch of their card we started to have problems with the 8800GTX and the Quattro supplies. We implemented a fix at this time because we were the only company with the issue. This fix worked for any user having the 8800GTX issue.

Then Nvidia released the (G92) core series of graphics cards GTS/GT. These cards sometimes do not work with either the original or fixed version of our power supply. We have been researching the issue, and Nvidia has been testing this issue in their labs. The problem appears to be a hardware interaction. With the right (wrong?) motherboard/graphics card/PSU, this issue occurs. Many combinations work, however (we?ve got an off-the-shelf Crosshair+8800GT 512+Quattro 850 system running perfectly in our lab), so changing any of the components could possibly make the system work. It seems that a bios fix/flash is going to be the final solution, but we don?t have any definite answers at this time.

I can get you more info if you like.

I made the same mistake, it happens. No need to get offensive, he is trying to help after all. It might not be as helpfull as he intended it to be though, but it's not hurting anyone either.

@ Russiansensation, he allready has all three of those psu's. He's simply trying to determine which one to use, not which one to buy.

Yeah but at least you made it early in the thread. Before I post in a thread I read the thread.

Any specifics on the Nvidia update. I got the Antec at Compusa going out of business.
