Outlook 2013 - reply to email address not recognized

In Windows Live Mail when I replied to an email I received the TO email address was inserted and everything worked fine.

In Outlook 2013 when I click reply, the email address in the TO field only shows the Name of the person and is not an Email Address. I have to then go into the email, look for the address and copy and paste it into the TO field.

I tried this on Live mail and Outlook using the same sender and in Live it always works fine.

Did I miss a setting somewhere?

Thanks!

Silly Question: are you sure outlook isn't just showing you a name (but actually sending to an email address)?

If I reply to one of my contacts, all I see is their name, underlined in the to line, but it does go through to that person.

Yep. Working as intended. If Outlook knows the name of the contact, it will show you that name in the TO: box instead of the email address. The message will still be delivered properly.

The name in the TO field is only the name and not underlined to indicate there is an email attached to it.

When I click Send, Outlook does not send it.

What you guys are describing is exactly how it works in Windows Live Mail.

Is this person in the to filed in your address book? I can see this occurring if you haven't brought any users over from Windows Live mail. I am not sure why it is giving you a name, as it should give you a "bare" email address if the sending is not in the address book. It sounds like office "thinks" it knows the sending when you hit the reply button, then realizes it doesn't have it, based on how you are describing things.

So, tell outlook to add the sender to your address book, then hit reply, and let us know if there is any change.

The address's in question are not in the Outlook 2013 address book, but they weren't in the MS Live Mail either.

If I click Reply it comes up with some error basically saying there is no email address to send to.

Thanks

Is this one address or multiple? If multiple are they all coming from the same place?

I am having the same problem - I've just migrated from Windows Live Mail 2011 to Outlook 2013 (via Outlook 2007, for various reasons - the problem was also present at this stage).

The problem affects emails where you have the sender saved as a contact, so the 'from' field is their name, rather than the raw email address. But it also affects all emails which have an "alias" - ie where the sender is given as a name, rather than the email address (eg you might get an email from support@microsoft.com, but the sender could appear as 'Microsoft Support Team').

The problem seems to be that when you reply, it simply dumps whatever text was displayed in the 'from' field into the 'to' field, without connecting this to the email address behind it.

However, it DOES still have the connected email address recorded somewhere, because it puts it correctly into the 'from' field of the header text it generates in the body of the email when you create the reply (eg "From: Microsoft Support Team [mailto:support@microsoft.com]")

EDIT: To clarify, the point I'm trying to make is that this doesn't seem to be related to contacts in any way, as it affects all emails with something that's not the email address in the 'from' field
