I have Exchange 2003 setup right to receive and send email from the server and it will work using pop3 from Outlook Express. When I install Outlook 2003 on my desktop, a message pops up that says:

"A system component, RPC, required by Outlook to connect to the email server is not configured properly. For more information, contact your system administrator."

Now, please don't tell me to contact the administrator because thats me

I have checked RPC in the services on both the desktop and server. Both are enabled. Anything else to get RPC to work right to connect to the Exchange server? Thanks.

If i read you right, you talkin about installing outlook 2003 on a machine running e2k3 right?

I am pretty sure that is not supported. I know there is a link around somewhere.

This used to be the case with exchange 2000 and loading outlook 2002. You could only load outlook 2000 as some dll used in outlook 2002 would override some of exchange 2000, causing problems in the end.

No, I'm sorry. I left out the part about the OS on my desktop. The server is SBS2003. My desktop I am installing Outlook 2003 on is WinXP Pro. I am getting the RPC error in XP Pro.

Ok, I'm retarded. I got the RPC error to go away. I don't remember taking the desktop off the domain but that was part of the problem. Now, it just comes up and says it can't find the Exchange server. Also, when I go into services, I tried to start the RPC locator service. Do I need this started? It keeps failing.

Ok. I got POP3 to work ok with Outlook 2003. I wanted to do an Exchange connection but I can't figure out that RPC error.

Next, anyone know any good resources for setting up Outlook 2003 web access?

Are you hosting your own mail on the SBS2k3 server? If not in order to use OWA you will need to access it via the servers IP address if you do not have an MX record setup for the domain (i.e. mail.mydomain.com). To actually configure it you need to just run the ICW in SBS2k3. Hope that helps.
