Outlook Express 6 and Message Rules

I've got a question about message rules in OE 6.0 that comes with WinXP. I would like to setup a rule which reads:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the To: or CC: line doesn't contains <my email address>
Delete it
and Stop processing more rules

Currently, there is only the setting which says do something about a message that arrives with the To: or CC: with the appropriate names, I basically want to make a rule that says if I was directly address in the TO: or wasn't part of the CC: then I don't want that message. This is possible in Outlook. Any thoughts???

One thing I don't understand about what you are trying to do is how would the To: or CC: fields not have your e-mail address in them.. I mean, obviousley if you received the message, then your e-mail address must be in the To or CC box.

Not necessairly..BCC'ed message don't have your name in the TO: or CC: and furthermore, no spammers put your name in list, they usuall BCC..I can take the change that some of my friends might BCC me, but that's the price they pay for it..

The basic idea here is to ensure that only valid people who put my email address in the TO: or CC: get through to me, everything else should end up in the gutter..Regards

im curious as to how to do this as well.

although its not true that spammers dont put your email address in the TO: or CC: fields. spammers just use fake email addresses and remove the headers from the email so you cant tell who its coming from.

Well I answerd my own question..thank god for newsgroups..

This is the simplest way to ensure that any email you receive was either directly sent to you or as part of a list. If the message is BCC'ed to you, then you will have to go through it and ensure it is a good email..but all spam should end up in the trash bin..

1. Tools->Message Rules->Mail
2. Click New..
3. Choose "Where the To or CC line contains people" for the Conditions
4. Choose "Delete it" and "and Stop processing more rules" for the Actions
5. Click on the contains people
6. Enter all your valid email address, click Options.. and check "Message does not contain the people below"
7. Save the rule

In the end, you should have a rule that reads as follows:


Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the To or CC line does not contain 'foo@bar.com' or 'bar@foo.com'
Delete it
and Stop processing more rules


This will basically put any message not sent to you in the Deleted Items folder, you can go through it at your leisure..Regards
