Hi, having problem with outlook express. NTuser.dat error message......

i just uninstalled outlookexpress and want to reinstall to see if the error msg will still retain.

i've successfully uninstalled, but haha, i can't install it back.

how do u install OE?

the folder is still there but emptied, but can't get rid of it(saying it is used by another program). the folder is empty even "hidden files to show" is enabled.

i have the WInXP pro installation disc with me...

what should i do?

well, first things first... hopefully, you followed good security practice and aren't logging in as administrator all the time (XP is actually pretty good at enforcing this). So at the fast user switch screen, hit ctrl alt del twice and it'll bring you to a win2k style login. Log in as administrator and copy the ntuser.dat in c:\documents and settings\default user into the folder with your username. That should restore that *shudder* oe compatible entry in the registry.

You, of course, run the risk of killing your profile so you can ignore that suggestion.

OE, if I recall, it bound tight with IE6. Downloading IE6 will more likely than not give it back to you.

Another idea would be to do a system restore to a point in time when things worked better.

Or, boot to your WinXP disk and try doing a "repair."
