I believe that is the UPC label on the black box (not the sleeve) that has BOTH your serial and the model number

Just called Seagate and the guy told me to just keep a copy of the UPC on the box and there wouldn't be any problems. He said as long as the SN on the drive matches that of the box it would work. I am wondering if I should email them and see if they won't fix it on there site. At least the box has a 5 year warranty on it. I wonder if I jumped up and down on it and crushed it if they would raplace it?

I wrote them an email stating my concern that I am likely to run into conflict should something go awry and they replied saying that they CANNOT update their system. Just be sure to have the Serial and Part number from the external box. They also gave me a reference case number should I run into any problem.

I'm almost tempted to find some way of screwing up the drive and running the warranty so that I can get a drive with a legitimate part number and serial number.

Anyway, I would ask for some case or reference number to refer to your communication with them so that if they question the validity, you have some prior communication stating your concern to back things up.

same here. serials are the same on the box, but part # are different. checked the warranty and it shows OEM type product, no warranty.
I usually keep all the boxes for the retail stuff I buy, so it's not a problem. I'll also be keeping the receipt in the box too..

Using the part # on the box is no problem, it shows up 2011 expire date...
my drive is also a .10! I'm a happy camper...

What they are telling you is not true. As I posted before, I sent them the info that they requested from me and by the next day my drive was updated to a 5 year warranty. As we are dealing with CSR's, you might just want to send an email again in hopes of getting another csr to respond properly.

BTW, my boss at work ordered two of the 400GB SATA drives on Thursday and they arrived today. The boxes again showed the model 7200.9 drives and inside both boxes were two 7200.10 drives. We entered both serial numbers and they indeed have 5 year warranties. It looks like Seagate is starting to fix the database.

Just received my 2 400 giggers today. Sure enough same problem. The drive and the box show the same serial number, but they differ when it comes to the Model # and Part # (which are related). I'm not gonna get crazy on this yet, as I'm sure they're aware and working on the problem. It'll all come down to the drive's serial number.. you cant have duplicate serial numbers.... They just haven't gotten the databases updated for the new .10's. I may revisit this in a month to see if all is well again... in the meantime, I FINALLY HAVE SATA!

Possible to still get one of these? There's a drive out there for $89.99, but it's a ST3300622ASRK. Any difference?

Edit: Der... it's late. That's a 300, moron.

I had to warranty my drive today, because it was DOA. It would detect in the bios but it would never show in computer management -> storage or detect during Seagate disk wizard.

The warranty went without a hick up and I should have a new drive by the end of the week. They even said they would provide a return shipping label.

Well that's good to hear, but you said earlier that they updated your warranty info. I'm really interested to see what happens when someone who's info hasn't been updated has to RMA a drive...

Open it up. It will say if it's a 7200.9 or 7200.10 on the drive.

I recently obtained four (4) 7200.10 Seagate Barracuda drives from a recent promotion for the Frys.com Grand Opening. After hearing many stories about warranty information being incorrect in your online database I checked your website to confirm this issue and all four drives I purchased claim to be "Components." I was informed that people have had their drive information updated in the online database when you are provided with a clear image of the drive label and outer box label so I have attached images that correspond with the drives I purchased so that they may be updated. Please provide me with a case or reference number of some kind so if there is a discrepancy in the future, I may refer to it to expedite any future situation.

If you need any additional imagery from any of the products in order to update the database, please let me know and I will send them along.

Thank you,
Aaron L'Heureux

Awaiting a response.

I received a 7200.10 a few days ago. The warranty didn't work at first, I checked again today and I now have a 5 year warranty.

I guess they are updating the database.

Both are 5QH's

Box has a five year warranty. Drives have none...
