What am I hearing about warranty problems? Are these covered like it says they are?
If you check the warranty status on Seagate web site, for one of the 7200.10 drives that came in a 7200.9 box, it shows it as an OEM drive that has no warranty and asks you to contact the system manufacturer!
I asked Seagate about this and was told that they would honor the 5-year warranty. Seagate claims that there is no problem.
I am worried that the burden will be on us to prove that the drive is under warranty if some day it needs service.
Oh so the last deal outpost listed them as 7200.9 drives but most/all was indeed 7200.10 drives in the box? Would keeping the receipt fix the warranty problem if they end up questioning it?
That's what Seagate wants me to believe.
But, all the receipt proves is that I bought a Seagate drive. The receipt does not show the serial number. The warranty is limited to 5 years. Their database shows when each drive expires. The problem is that it seems like their database needs more than just the serial number. It also needs the part number. That's where our problem starts. The part number on the box (7900.9) is different from the part number on the drive (7900.10).
Seagate also tells me that I am supposed to refer to the drive with the part number that is on the box. You can see all of this in the copies of emails I posted on the previous page of this thread.
My problem is that this sounds a little bit fishy to me.
When I send the drive to them some day and they refuse to service it, how am I going to find this guy who sent me this email?
