F@H isn't a good benchmark for your hard drive max temp, just for CPU max

Try using HDTach or SiSoft Sandra's hd benchmarks - that'll heat it up nice and toasty

Not sure why FAH wouldn't be a decent becnchmark because it's constantly writing to the HD, but I ran Sandra 2007 HD benchmark and it was 38C. I ran HD tach (quick bench and long bench), and it was 38C. For a couple seconds while running the sequential read on the long bench, the temp went to 39C but dropped quickly back to 38C
I finally checked the temp when I was writing to the drive by moving nearly 20GB of files from another drive to the Seagate drive over 12-15 minutes and the temps were again 38C.

The extra heat some people are reporting on 7200.10s might come from the heads having to read more bits per square cm due to the higher density on the platter caused by the vertical bit layout on the .10 vs the horizontal bit layout used in older drives.
So it seems the bits are read faster because they are packed closer together but likely with more stress on the heads generating some more heat and probably needing finer tolerances in the heads making them more delicate.
The .10s are too new to have a record of reliability yet, but I doubt they'll fail prematurely simply because of the perpendicular technology and its various positive/negative side effects.
Either way the Seagate 5 year warranty takes the risk out of trying this first use of perpendicular technology in the 7200.10 series..

I called today to have the shipping charges changed and they did it. Also I am glad I called cause somehow this was added to my order: In Process 85074 AcerEntra K5-166/2.0GB/16MB 1 $529.95 $529.95. I have no idea what it is nor have I ever looked at it on the site but they removed it from my order. Check your orders before they ship people. Thanks OP.

I ordered Saturday evening at 6:33pm EST. I just checked DHL site to track it (thinking it wouldn't even be in the system since it was ordered on the weekend), and it's on the DHL delivery vehicle to be delivered today! That's the fastest I have seen ground shipping. They actually shipped it out on Sunday. Anyway, thanks OP. I paid $129 for the same drive a few weeks ago (got the 7200.10).

everyone report back whether you get the 7200.9 or 10. I feel like if you get the 9 you should be able to get the 10 since the product detail page stated that the drive had perp recording when only the 10 truly has this, not the nine

i believe this is 7200.9

i didnt get in. i was thinking about cancelling the 320GB 7200.10 order that i had at newegg for 85 shipped. i have enough storage and this is for a primary hdd running OS so i figured might as well get the perp. rec. technology

I got one and the drive showed up an hour ago, (fastest shipping ever) good news it's a 7200.10 My only regret is not getting another, but I'm sure I can gamble again as this seems to be a frequent deal.

I just got it and it is 7200.10 just as SludgeFactory did.
It is nice to have the .10 anyway.

My luck - ordered three before and got 7200.10s for my Raid5 array. One more slot to fill of the four sata connectors I have and this time I got a 7200.9. Oh well...would have to switch to an IDE drive for my OS if I plugged this into the array, maybe I'll take one of the 7200.10s from the array for the OS and replace it with this one.

By the way, did everyone check the jumpers? All of mine were set to 150, I think you just pull it for 300.

Got mine and it's a 7200.10 (matches the one I got a few weeks ago)!

Crappy luck FTJoe. I thought that kind of luck was reserved only for me.

Holy Super Service Batman! I ordered this drive on Saturday night and when I came home from work today (Monday), my brand new retail box 400GB hard drive was here! I thought Newegg was fast but this purchase was just smokin' all the way around! Now I just have to figure out what I'm gonna do with all this storage. This was a super hot deal. Thanks OP.
