But that "repost" thread is a month old, and still shows a $49.95 price in the title.

The older thread is good read for more info, and warnings about how craptacular PC Chips mobos can be. At $40 the mobo is basically a freebie. A 166 fsb or Nforce mobo would be better, since most these newer durons can go over 2 GHz, yet the locked multiplier limits you to FSB overclocking.

For those of you who are thinking about this deal from Frys, or outpost. Just got our setup going today, the motherboard lacks almost any and all advanced options but it does support 333 FSB and the Duron that came with the deal is currently running very reliably at 2.0ghz 12x166 in Win2k. Seems stable and while we were at Frys' picked up this fan on sale for $10 in store, http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3749026, this combined with our $30 60 gig drive from COmpusa $25 case from Frys, $60 512 DDR and $60 Saphire 128bit and free CD rom I had lying around is one killer machine. Well after we unlocked the 9550 it OCed to 390/460 and is running 3dmark03 2900-3000, 3dmark2k1 12500-13500. I'll run some more benches when I get time. Not bad for a total of around $225 and some change!

it does NOT run 166mhz.

165mhz from what I hear...

the one I purchased failed to boot. cpu was ok but mobo was not working.

returned it and hopefully will be getting a better combo (a64 or semp 3100+) soon

Picked up one from the b&m last Friday. I stuck it in an old Dell PaloAlto case. I had to nibble the IO mask opening and solder leads to the front case controls. It turned out to be a fun afternoon project.

I have tried multiple OS and presently am running Lindows. I never knew the Lindows installation only takes five minutes or less! It really mimics Windows and Apple's OS. Runs very well.

My first Duron. I'm very impressed.

you got links to where you found out how to set it to 166 (whether it be jumpers, bios hacks, etc...)

also can you take a screen shot using wcpuid

thanks!

im sure he meant 165mhz. .. I havent read/heard anyone running 166 so far.
I did hear however that you boot from normal fsb and set it to 166 or higher within windows with such programs as cpucool and such... I dont hav eproblem with 165mhz except that it is running pci and agp at very high fsb...

I think some people are returning the board before setting JP1 to normal. This board ships in 'CMOS Reset' mode. I plugged everything up, pressed the power button and -0- nothing. I though 'self, the rumors were true, you've got a dead board too'. It wasn't until I read a review on newegg referencing JP1 and thumbed through the manual again that I switched JP1 to normal setting and it powered up like a charm.

Running Slackware 10 and very pleased with my purchase. This may not be cutting edge, but if it is what you need, for the price it's great.
