IMHO, the ocz modsteam is a better psu than this but that is just me. However, you can't beat a psu at a price of $25.

it's not worth it if it blows up and destroys some of your other expensive ass hardware.

Probably won't blow up on you, but maybe will feed your computer components bad power. Bascially it can damage components, but will most likely just reduce the life of your components.
I had one just die on me after rebooting/shuting down my computer over 5 times.
Such a horrible power supply company.

These poeple are mentally undeveloped sheep, take the info that thy sh^t out lightly.
---------------------

The people who encounter problems with this psu are the ones who push it near its wattage limit... If your running a high end overclocked system, this psu is not for you.

but if you running a normal system that in no way will push it to its 500watt limit, then this psu is a deal.

I received this PSU and it runs fine... i dont know why some people rat on its fans also, because personaly i could not hear it at all unless i put my ears on them... none of the rails were bellow spec... and the comp i was testing it on i restarted more then 10times and didnt have any problem.

also note = this is one of the easyest most reliable rebates iv ever done...

submitted $40 rebate online to OnRebate on 7/19/2005

$40 OnRebate mailed 07/22/05

Received on 08/12/05

you can also check online statues at any time.
--------------------

EDIT: o yea, a psu has to be worse then generic in order to blow up or damage your components... most psu's are probably around 11.5 to 12.5 on the 12v rail..... you need more like 13.5 or 14.5 volts to posibly damage other components over time.... and if your psu smokes or blows up.... that just means there could of been a voltage problem with your house's electric socket, or your psu was refurbished and resoldered by monkeys in guatemala.

I have also had an Ultra X-Connect for a while now and have had no problems what so ever. Their rebate came with no delays.

When deciding whether this is worth it, don't forget to factor in the cost of buying a new motherboard.

BS. My X-Connect unit wasn't being "pushed near its wattage limit" at all...unless you're trying to tell me that a 500W PSU can't handle a 6800 GT, not overclocked, a AMD 64 3200+, not overclocked, and 1 GB of generic Corsair RAM, not overclocked, along with one SATA HDD, a DVD burner, and a DVD ROM drive? And yet...my old motherboard is still deader than a door nail thanks to the X-Connect PSU...

Bottom line is, buyer beware.

those are all high-power requirement components! Bottom line is this will work for "average" stuff, but if you're a gamer, oc'er, or put any 'special' requirements on your psu (i.e. 5 drives plus 4 usb and a gf6 video card), go with a sturdier ps (Antec). This will work fine for older components or systems not pushing limits of the psu.

high powered? that 500w cant handle?

I was thinking about this p/s since its cheap, but unfortunatly my 3200+ is o/ced to 2.7ghz and so is my 6800 to almost gt speeds with 16 pipes..gig of ram , dvd burner and a dvd writer... i guess i wont get this psu.. Too many negative comments..

Exactly. A good, accurately rated 300W PSU would run that, for example what you'd find in many new OEM boxes or from Delta. Antec, might need 380W+ unit. ONLY in a generic PSU would the fictitious 500W rating not be enough. In short, it may be illegal the way these are rated.

I tried to mention the problems with these in another thread and people had the nerve to claim I was thread crapping. These PSu are not approproiate for a system that would run fine off any modern name-brand 400W PSU!

I'm still waiting for a class-action lawsuit over this PSU. "500W" is BS.

have an ultra x-connect with the uv blue inside...works fine and im OCed from 2.4C to 3.4C...with all this components inside.

i did have a 300W antec before, but there is so much stuff inside my comp, it was pointless.

Just a little touchy about your purchase? Do us all a favor and don't try to justify your buying decision by giving out bad advice. How about some review links, and not pretend reviews where they read voltage from the bios and say the colored lights look cool. A real review will load the unit at its rated output. If it says 500 watts on the side and it can only sustain 490, then its garbage, and not fit to be sold.
I?ve been reading a lot of psu reviews the last week or two, the best units are holding voltages to within 3% at 100% load. Show me the links please.

I got one from frys for $5 during BF sale, but after checking out the reviews, I decided not to use it. Wasn't worth the risk. Got a Seasonic instead and the Ultra X is headed for ebay to get rid of it.
