Over clock a printer?

I've been reading about different HP laser printers (1012 and 1300 series) and have been wondering if there is really any reason for the difference in speed. The 1012 prints at 15 ppm, the 1300 at 20ppm. Is there any reason one couldn't "update" the firmware, or whatever hp printers have, to increase the printing speed?

I would think that it would not be possible. Unlike cpus, memory, or other electronic equipment a Printer has many moving parts that would limit it's ability to move faster. Then again, you might be able to get it to print faster, but whether it would print with the same quality is a whole other issue.

I doubt it would make any difference, except maybe for the time before first page out speed or severely bloated pdf files. All lasers I've ever encountered seem to be limited by physical factors more so than delays in processing.

well I'm not talking overclocking the processor inside.

I find it hard to believe that HP would use entirely seperate parts for their different models. I would think they would group their products and just set a software setting to print at X speed. Anyone have any experience with HP roms or whatever you would call the OS software.
