I also tried to get OfficeDepot to PM to OfficeMax but they called because the pricematch was too great from 160>80 and then they got an incompetant lady on the phone so I was denied on that count too. Anyhow, they didn't have stock of the drive so I probably wouldn't have gotten the pricematch anyhow. Any ideas Portlanders?

Ask for a rain check on the PD drive got 2 rain checks in Houston.

Which Officemax did you go to? Everytime I call they say their not substituting the drive anymore.

Anyone know of availability of the PD sub in south LA, Long Beach, OC areas of SoCal?

If so, PM me here or email me at russwjohns@aol.com

Or if some kind soul from the SoCal area could email me a receipt scan that I might try to use to PM this deal, you'd have my heartfelt gratitude!

thanks,

Got a BTC drive. I made the sales drone go back and check for any other serials and all started with Pxxxxx so I just took this one and ran (after paying of course ).

Is there any reason why not to use bitsetting for all your burns? Keep everything as dvd-rom?

Good question. As far as i know though the dvd+r is the only one that some dvd players and xbox have a problem recognizing as a dvd. My xbox reads +r fine (samsung) it just didn't recognize it as a dvd to load without bitsetting.

Thanks OP. My OM is doing the PD sub, they brought one from the backroom, it started with a "P". I asked if he could go back and look for a drive that started with a "4". Out of the 20 they had all were "P". I decided against buying it. I still have ~200 Fuji CDs to go through so I don't need a dvd burner that badly.

I went by my local OM today. I looked in the section and they didn't have any DVD Burners on the shelf. A nice lady came by to ask if she could help and I said sure I thought that you had a DVD burner in the add. She said uh yeah lets go look at the add. We went to the counter and lookded at the add and I said yeah the $79.00 one. She yelled over the the manager who was in front of the office. He disappeared for a minute and came out and went into a long speal. He finally said it is $79.00 with no rebates I said yeah thats the one I want. I went to go get some blank DVD's and the entire section was wiped out. Picked up some cheap OM DVD-R's to get me started.

Looked at the box it's a BTC but for $79.00 I don't care.

BTW OM offers an extended warranty plan for 11 bux where they will swap the drive out if there are any problems for like 2.5 years.

I have an 851S....

Just checked out that thread.. All I can say is a big fat THANK YOU!!!! I can now do bitsetting AND burn my RICOHJPNR01's at 8x! Haven't tested this 2.4+RW bug thats in this firmware though, no +RW media right now. Here is what I did:

A. Downloaded GS0A firmware, Lite-On Flash Tool, and Easy Hex Editor from download.com
B. Backed up my current hacked firmware using Lite-On flash tool. (GS08 edited to allow 8x +R burns)
C. Updated to GS08. Found that the bitsetting tool now works. No 8x though, will have to rehack.
D. Backed up GS0A firmware (did this as an easy way to get it in .bin format, the litefirm tool didn't work)
E. Hacked it to allow 8x on the Ricoh's. (FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, BE VERY CAREFUL EDITING YOUR FIRMWARE!!)
F. Updated firmware with new hacked version.
G. Burn your Imation DVD+R's from OD at 8x and a DVD-ROM Book Type!! Woo-Mother-F'ing Hoo!!!

Thanks again and happy flashing

I'm having no luck getting one of the PD's anywhere in Ohio. No one will provide a raincheck for the advertised price either? They keep giving me the run around about not being able to offer the $50 rebate if they do give a raincheck? Can they even do that since it is an advertised item?

By the way two OM's here said they weren't getting another truck until next Wednesday?

No luck here in detroit MI area either. I went on Wednesday and computer showed 17(Pacific Digital official substitute) but mgr says computer is never accurate & he has none. Went back today and CS person checks computer, still shows 17. While she's checking I ask some questions about the computer inventory. First thing I asked is if the computer is accurate (as she checks other stores) and she says Yes. I tell her I was here the other day then she interjects "it's 24 hrs behind though." So I tell her I was here 2 days ago and it was 17 then too. She goes into another room for a couple minutes then comes out saying there aren't any.

Anyway this is pretty hot so I guess I will try again tomorrow. Thanks for the helpful info.

Thanks for the information that GSOA allows bitsetting. I have uploaded the modified file to my server if you'd rather avoid using the hex editor. NOTE, THESE FILES ONLY WORK WITH THE 851S. Flashed mine this morning with this firmware and have verifed that the bitsetting file works.
GSOA - for 851S - Burn Ricoh 4X @ 8X

I had previously modified GS08 to burn the Ricoh 4X @8 X on the 851S
GSO8 - for 851S - Burn Ricoh 4X @ 8X

You will need this file to flash your drive with the firmware

Before changing Updating the firmware, I would STRONGLY recommend backing up your current firmware - Use the BACKUP option from the file above. NOTE, THESE FILES ONLY WORK WITH THE 851S. Flashing a 411 or 811with either of these files will probably kill the drive.

I have the 851 drive, which one do I use the GS0A or the GS08?

Or should i go to the Liteon Drive and flash it to the newest firmware and then flash if with one of the firmware you have uploaded on your server?

If I were you, I'd flash it with the modified GSOA firmware. The bitsetting option may be useful for compatibility with older players.
