Overclock causing hard drive data corruption?

System is as follows:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester
Crucial Ballistix PC4000 512MBx2 memory at 2.8v

I can get the computer to POST when I run 10x230 HTT. The thing is, I start getting data corruption. I thought I recall reading about someone who had a similar problem and that it was due to one of the SATA ports? Is this correct or is this normal when you start playing with the FSB?

Also I attempted to Prime95 at 10x220 HTT and it failed almost right away. Would increasing the voltage to the chip benefit the overclock?

As it stands, idle, the temp is at around 32-34 degrees.

Thank you in advance.

I believe people have problems if sata ports 1 and 2 are used, and the solution is to use 3 and 4. I think. Someone will hopefully verify this for you. BUMP.

Data corruption is one of the worst, but not so uncommon, byproducts of OC'ing. It could be the HDD itself or disk controller in the chipset, but in most cases it's caused by memory error.

Yeah, certain boards lack proper functioning sata locks on ports 1 & 2, so you are better going for 3 & 4.

Regardless, however, if you are not Prime5 *and* memtest stable, then you are risking data corruption - period. You need to lower your overclock (or raise voltage, etc. see Zebo's excellent guide here) and make sure your system is stable, first and foremost.

On the mushkin site they say that you need 2 ticks more on your memory thingy ( cant remember what it's called ) so that you wont risk data corruption. Like 233-7 rather than 233-6. Alot of people dont do it, but it might eliminate a possiblity.

That means that the minimum tRAS would be tRCD+CAS latency + 2 cycles (to output the first burst of four and make way for the second burst in the output buffers).

Well I figured it out, I just moved my hard drive from SATA1 to SATA2 and it solved the data corruption.

QFT. Had it happen to me before, never again.

Good to hear you got it fixed; but this is just in case someone searches...

I have the same board and the same problem with data coruption useing Opteron 165. What RAID controler are you useing the NVRAID or the Silicon SATA controler? I currently have a RAID 0 with my two hard drives on SATA 1 & 2 conectors on the NVRAID controler.

This is really annoying me and I think the lack of locks on the NVRAID controler is keeping me from getting a decent OC out of my Opteron.

Thank you.
