I initially said I would not overclock this new build, but I have a decent cooler (CoolerMaster TCP-812), that just idles and it is too tempting to leave this thing at standard optimized BIOS settings. I found a list of OC settings from a review of this MBO by HiTech Legion.

http://www.hitechlegion.com/reviews/motherboards/31671-asus-m5a99fxpro-r2?showall=1&limitstart=

Their settings are as follows with a couple of exceptions. My memory (Patriot 2x8GB Viper 3 Black Mambo DDR3-2133) has tested settings at 1866 MHz which I am currently using without issue. The plan is to make all these changes (except the multiplier) and then step up the multiplier from 20 to 25 in increments of 1. If it makes it to 25, then I would probably back it off to 24. Does this make sense? Any suggested changes to these settings?

How much does the AMD Turbo Core step up the processor? I'm wondering if I could pick a multiplier that would be lower and then Enable the Turbo Core to allow it to peak at 5 GHz when it kicks in?

Based on the 100+ views and no responses there obviously is no interest in this overclocking combination at this forum. However, just in case somebody finds this thread with Google, I thought I should post an update on the outcome.

Essentially the manual overclocking using the HiTech Legion settings failed. I suspect there are additional changes which were not noted. What I did find is that the basic settings heated the processor up so much that I lost any interest in a manual overclock, and did not try to find out what the problem was. If I was to guess, perhaps there was an issue with leaving the PCIe frequency in Auto.

In any case here are my overclocking notes, and how I ended up with a 4320 MHz overclock. It can be done with one mouse click in TurboV EVO. The good part is that the PC runs nice and cool, and scales back when the CPU is not in use.

Attempted to use the above settings starting with multiplier of 20. Ran at 20, but CPU hit 72 deg. C during Windows 8 Performance test. Idle was 47 deg C. CPU and Memory rating at 7.9, same as just Optimized defaults.

Ran at a multiplier of 21. CPU appeared to overheat at 75+ deg C or so or more during the Windows 8 performance test. Computer shut itself down at that point.

Ran the TurboV EVO auto tuning routine at the Fast setting. It essentially left all defaults at Optimized except frequency set to 216, PCIe at 100. DRAM was forced to DDR3-1728. DRAM timing stayed at Auto.

Ran the Auto Tuning again at Extreme. The program attempted to use a bus speed of 220 but it also appeared to fail, and left speed at 216.

FINAL SETTING WAS AT THE AUTO TUNING FAST LEVEL, AND RESULTED IN A MULTIPLIER OF 20 AND BUS SPEED OF 216 FOR FINAL CLOCK OF 4320 MHz.

Windows Performance test for CPU and Memory improved from 7.9 to 8.1. Max temp during the test was 51 deg. C.

Sorry bud 5GHz won't be possible on Air. Espeacilly with that cooler. Maybe 4.5GHz at max

Not a very common combo, so few would relate. I just upped my Multiplier to 20 on my 8320. I was never much of an overclocker anyway.
