Overclock your GeForce 2 MX?

Since it is based on the same .18u manufacturing process as the Annihilator 2 Ultra, I would expect this card to overclock extremely well after you attach heatsinks to the RAM and a heatsink/fan to the CPU.

I don't know if there is any utility out there that would allow you to overclock these things. Maybe you can flash the BIOS to the Ultra BIOS. Does anyone have enough guts to try this?

Go download Powerstrip. My friend tried flashing the Asus TNT2 into a TNT2 Ultra and ran with no problems. You can try though.

Why bother? If you read the reviews, there is LITTLE to be gained by OCing a video card. You can also run into some stability issues.

Whoa! Wait a second there, bro! Overclocking your video card GREATLY increases frames if you're an FPS gamer, and helps in other games as well. Unless if you play a lot of RPGs or games like AOE II, in which case you'll be fine on a Matrox G200/G400, which has crisp 2D.

Here's a quote directly from Anand:

ASUS V7100/T GeForce2 MX - Overclocked Performance

<< Overclocking the card to the max we could get it, 210/210 MHz, proved to be a different story. Shown in the red bars above, overclocking the V7100 provided for quite a performance boost, especially at the crucial resolution of 1024x768x32. Going 15 FPS faster, resulting in 27.4% increase in speed, the extra FPS will be noticed. At 69.8 FPS, the ASUS V7100 provides quite a bang for its buck. >>

Go to www.inmatrix.com and download the utility called DC Genie 1.10.
There is an option to activate the O/C feature directly in the drivers control panel

BYE!

Geekish - Yes, but that is an EXTREME OC. Read the paragraph below that:

<<Let's first take a look at the performance gain that our card at 180/171 MHz provided. Represented by the black bars in the above graph, one can see that the 5 MHz core and memory overclock did little to increase speed, with the most noticeable performance increase coming at 1024x768x32. Once again, we are uncertain whether or not the shipping cards will come at this overclocked speed, but if not, you are not loosing out too much, with the maximum performance gain of 3.5%.>>

LOL, to get that huge increase, he OC'd the memory core by 44MHz and the gpu core by a whopping 35Mhz. If it remains stable at those speeds in the long run with daily usage, I would be surprized. Good luck gfgray, I hope you can pull it off.

Maybe I am just lucky, but MOST Nvidia cards I have had are extremely overclockable. Most of the Geforce MX's I have worked with will do at least 200/200 without much of a problem. I have had my Geforce2 GTS set at 240/380(factory settings are 200/333) for 6 months now with no problems, so to say that a video card will not run at higher speeds for a long period of time is not necessarily an accurate statement. Lastly, to overclock a Nvidia card all that is needed is the coolbits registry tweak, and a hardware tab is added to the driver tabs and you just set the speed you want....

Thanks everyone, I was just wanting to know whether the overclocked GeForce 2 MX would perform on par with an overclocked GeForce 2. I think I will buy an OEM GeForce 2.

Overclocking the memory on the GeForce2MX will increase your performance very well. We all know the limitations of the MX is the fault of the memory bandwidth bottleneck. From my personal experiance, my MX overclocks very well. As you can see in my sig. I run 200/200 and my card performs without screen tearing and artifacts in all of the games I play except Motocross Madness2 that refuses to run past stock. This is with the stock hs/fan on the core and SPP heatsinks on the RAM.

And if you want to o/c, forget PowerStrip and just download CoolBits.

Dem u all for overclocking your MX . I have a MX from a lowly known Taiwanese VB maker, Powercolor (very cheap). I can only oc my mem to 185 before getting snow falling on my desktop, then pushing the core to 200 before reaching the card's limits. But when I run UT, the game locks up. I have even placed a Blue Orb on the chip, but still no go. So working my way back down the scales, I am HAPPY to say, that I can oc my MX to 178 mem and 190 core without UT locking up. So concluding, my Blue Orb will keep my chip cooler when running UT at 1024, 16 bit, with everything set to max, and all running at the default of 166 mem and 175 core ...wha wha wha:frown: Still happy now, after running with a Vanta

I can't even overclock my MX AT ALL without lockups. I have heat sinks on the ram and it made no difference.
OH Well, It is still pretty good.

Lucky with those overclocks, badthad? Actually, even OEM Visiontek GF2 MX cards overclock well; yes, I'm talking about the cards with no heatsink on the GPU core or the memory chips!

Mine does 200/200 easy.

Overclocking is always a risk, and isn't always a sure thing, but the performance increase is very noticable.
