Overclocked Barton 2500+?

I've been reading the archives and benchmarks on the new bartons and it seems the xp2400 or even the xp2100 are better bang for the buck since the cache doesn't give as much performance boost as higher clock....but here's my question

Is the barton 2500+ a better buy if I overclock it. I can't find much info or people who've done this yet, but it seems with the bigger cache and higher FSB the barton 2500+ can reach 2.1 or 2.2 ghz.

So if I plan to overclock and game should I spring for the $180 barton 3500+ or do the $100 2100+ or even $140 for 2400+

I don't have any parts and will be building from scratch so I can get a good nforce2 board. I'll be gaming mostly with some mp3 encoding but not much.

what would you do?
thanks

well i did do it. i broke down and got the 2500 with a7n8x board and corsair 3200 ram, the results are great. my first shot at overclocking i am running the chip at 2.1ghz no prob at around 90 degrees fahren. the setup is incredibly fast and my 3d mark score shot up to 15000. i am on my first day of the overclock and about 10 hours into it and absolutely no problems. so i say it was worth it.

Thanks eclipse...Do you consider that an agressive overclock? Did you have to mess with voltage or aftermarket cooling?

You went from 11x166 to 13x166 right?

Thanks

no i wouldn't consider it an agressive overclock at all. no voltage increases necessary. i am going to start benchmarking under some other programs today and see where it takes me.

Hey guys cool. Please post to this thread your OC'ing results if you would be so kind. I'm very interested in the results and there isn't much data on this yet since the chip is so new.

i am going to keep fiddling with it i want to get the fsb up but for some reason yet to be determined my 9700 causes a hang during the nature scene when the fsb got up around 190. i'll keep plugging though.

I set one up last week and remember reading about the setting in the manual. I don't think it is an auto setting though. Wish I could help more but I sent the manual out the door with the system last week

Leave your case covers off and see if that helps. Could be due to heat.

A7N8X has 3 AGP settings under "Advanced Chipset Features" in BIOS: AGP 1x/2x/4x/8x, AGP Aperature (16mb, 32mb...256mb...), and AGP Freq (60~100mhz i think).

ok my question is only slightly unrelated. Im running an 1800+ TbredA currently at (8.5 x 216=)1837mhz on a Chaintech 7NJS Nforce2 mobo, with Corsair 3200c2 512Mb. I usually bump up the AGP freq. a bit, to pick up the rest of the system a bit, since with these AGP locks we dont see the same whole system boost as when the AGP/PCI would get overclocked on boards sans the lock. Anyway, whats a safe speed to put the AGP up to? I usually put it at 75 or so, is this too much, or could it take more?
I have a Leadtek Ti4200 128mb @ 320/590, Sound Blaster Audigy MP3+, and one HDD on the IDE channels (as well as 2 cd drives; my other HDD is running alone on the SATA RAID controller )

Could I bump it up more, and would it do me much good?

Another question, I usually turn the AGP voltage up in BIOS to 1.7v. Is this bad, good, pointless? Will adding voltage do anything, or does the power regulating stuff on the video card just bleed off all the excess im adding?

thanks!

Hey guys, my friend bought the Barton 2500+ with A7N8x and he says he's stuck at 1GHz (??) clock speed when booting up with default settings. Have you guys seen this problem while building your rigs?

The FSB jumper is at default 266/333MHz. Both manual and auto multiplier settings of 11x in the BIOS don't work either. Maybe his rig is booting at 11x100MHz. Is that possible? I looked at the online manual and there is no other adjustment for FSB other than that jumper.

EDIT: BIOS rev 1002

Thanks for pointing that out, Champ. Just looked at the online manual a second time and found the FSB setting.

eclipse 1827 - I have read at other forums that the 9700 Pro needs to have hardware acceleration backed off one notch when approaching 200MHz fsb or else it becomes unstable.
