I just overclocked for the first time!

I have an A64 754pin 3000+ that was running at 2.01gHz before. Now it is running at 2.05gHz!

Yeah, I know, no difference at all. But I am the one who OC'ed it! I understand the concept now!

That isn't overclocking. It's called normal variance in CPU speed.

I have never seen any variance at all. It's always 2.01.

And 40mHz would have been HUGE when I built my first computer (133mHz)

By the way, thanks for being dickheads about it. You weren't born an expert. You had to start somewhere. Thanks for trying to piss in my cheerios.

id raise the HTT a bit more and see what you can do

Take it slow and read guides if you need to, definately dont screw with voltages or memory timings if you dont know what youre doing.

Well if you overclocked a P1 133MMHz by 33MHz that would be a 25% overclock. Nice percentage increase.

Now if you overclock an A64 2000MHz by 50MHz that would be a 2.5% overclock. This will only be noticeable in a benchmark designed to show a difference.

You have to understand that is a 10x difference in percentage increase (2.5% Vs 25%). 50MHz is nothing to a 2000MHz CPU.

What's that, a bump of 1MHz in the FSB? Small steps lead to larger ones - soon you will learn the delicate balance of speed, voltage, and heat.

Uh, that was my point.

OF COURSE the improvement in performance isn't significant at all. I noticed no improvement. That much is obvious. What IS significant, at least as far as I am concerned, is that I overclocked my CPU for the first time.

You guys are so caught up with hearing about people OCing P4s to 7gHz that you forget that the guy who did it had to figure out how to do it in the first place.

What did you do to overclock your proc? Maybe, we can walk him through instead of being assholes about it.

The "pack" mentailty sux don't it? BTW, he doubtless just bump the HTT/LDT 4-5mhz.

I think that's great man. Now just work on getting it higher. Don't worry about the others, they're just trying to score some "cool" points by bashing.

I bumped the FSB from 200 to 205. I was trying to install a Ghosted HD (for the life of me, I can't seem to get that program to work), and while I was in BIOS, I decided to mess with the FSB to see what happened. I bumped it up 5mHz to see if it would still run stable, and it worked.

I would have pressed it more but I was getting ready for work and was in a hurry. I was just pleased that I did it.

Now if I could find a way to eliminate the DREs on Ghost images so that I can ditch my WD 80gb HD before it dies, I would be in hog heaven.

I just use WD's DATA lifeguard version for my HDDs to do the drive copy, works flawlessly for me BTW, depending on your board&chipset, you can just use Clockgen or another utility to bump fsb from windows so you can see how far it goes without boosting voltages or using dividers and such.

before you bump up the FSB any more, make sure you have the following:

- A chipset that has a working AGP/PCI lock (or PCIe if you have)
- Proper cooling, not just a good cpu HSF, case cooling as well.
- SATA drives that are on the added on controller, not the chipset controller

It should be safe to overclock to 220MHz FSB with pretty much any A64.

Enjoy!

Wow. You can be an asshole to someone on the internet while hiding behind a nickname. Your parents must be so proud.
