Overclocking 754 Athlon XP-M

Has anyone had any exerience overclocking a socket 754 Athlon XP-M 2800?

How does it fair versus say a 754 Sempron? Does the fact that it is a mobile processor mean its multipliers are unlocked and thus potentially a great OC'er ala the Socket A XP-M?

It does not exist, if you see something marketted as a socket 754 athlon xp-m it is a mislabeled processor. Anything socket 754 is either athlon 64 or sempron, and because there were semprons on socket a as well there is some confusion, but there is definetely no socket 754 athlon xp anything.
It wouldn't even make sense, considering that athlon 64s were little more than athlon xps with an integrated memory controller, so if it could even exist on socket 754 it would be an athlon 64 or sempron.

The cpu was most likely mislabeled, as Fox5 said. And as far as i know, most mobile cpu's are simply designed to run at lower voltages, and as such can be pushed further volt-for-volt than it's desktop equiv., but i dont know much about mobile cpu's, so i cant be sure.

you shouldnt state things unless your 100% sure. The socket 754 athlon xp-m was produced for OEM's (HP) and was a athlon64 that had the 64bit extensions disabled. They usually had 256kb of lvl2 cache and iirc the 2800+ ran at 1.6ghz. I had a 2600+ xp-m which I ran in a desktop mobo at 2.4ghz. Performance was OK - just a sempron in all but name.

Even still, it is just a sempron in all but name and I think that still qualifies it as mislabeled. No comparision can be made to the socket A athlon xp cores cause it's not one of them, it's a sempron. For that matter, the Sempron 2800+ ran at the same speed and with the same cache. And from what I recall, HP soon after properly relabeled these as semprons.

OK, so we all agree then. I was right and Fox5 was wrong

Nevertheless, I was not trying to compare it to the Socket A XP-M's, except in the fact that mobile chips in general have their multipliers unlocked. Is that the case with this chip Mingon?

Newegg has a nice combo on a Socket 754 mobo and one for these for just over $100. Includes a PCI-e slot instead of AGP which is why I am looking at it over say the usual Outpost specials.

Does anyone wlse have experience overclocking one of these and also, is there a better bang for the buck for mobo+CPU+fan combo with PCI-e for $110?
