Overclocking 8500 (ARTIFACTS??)

I have 2 ati radeon 8500 64mb right now... going to return one back tomorrow, which one shoul i keep? one oc more w/ core and one oc mroe w/ memory...

#1 - Whenever i run at 300/600, it seems everything is just fine. Checked for artifacts in the windows with artifacts tester (tried many times, no artifacts). But the weird problem is whenever i run 3dMARK2k1, after around 3 sec artifacts started to show up like crazy (210,000 artifacts w/ artifacttester)... Would this be the heat problem on the ram? i've modded the vmem up to 3.8 and i still got artifacts in 3dmark2k1 after couple sec.

#2 - i have another 8500 card that runs well at 290/300.. But whenever i set it to 300 for the core, it locks up. I've tried upping the voltage to 1.82 (1.75 normal) but still the same result which locks up. I was thinking of replacing it with a socket 7/a cooler, will that helps to bring my core to 300?

which one should i keep? my goal is to run at 300/300.. unfortunely both of it didn't make that... Should i keep the first one which oc better with core or the second one where the ram is much better but the core won't run at 300? I can't keep both cards... since i'll returning one of them back.

Take them both back and get a third one.

If that doesn't o/c as high as you like, take it back, etc.

The first one I'd say is either heat related or one of the ram chips just aint up to the others and never will be. Is your case open and cool when you try this? Within the first three seconds of the test is not good, and it may never do the 300 (299.5) dance. And i'm assumming you used a good voltage tester and are sure of the 3.8volts? Over voltage will cause this as well.

The second one may get by with a better cooler. Mine would lock-up at around 290MHz also till I removed the stock cooler and applied ASII to it. Now I'm stable to 301.5MHz. The problem is some cores will top out and never produce more no matter what.

I'm gonna say right now that neither may make 300/300 with-out more mods than would keep them in a returnable state of condition. You may have to settle for a decent 295/295 setting.
