Overclocking 9700Pro query

First, I'm sorry if I used the wrong search terms, and if there's a great thread out there on this already. I've had my 9700 Pro AIW for a week now, and after getting through most of the install issues I tried an overclock. I use Rage3d overclocker, the default settings are 324 core 310 memory. I tried bumping both a little, my 3dmark scores actually fell slightly. So, my question, how overclockable is this guy; and what are reasonable numbers? Just curious if others have had success in o/c and how they approached optimization. I'm just starting to play with it myself.

it really is YMMV on oc'ing the 9700pro. some people have unbelievably good luck oc'ing it and others don't (such as me). i can only get my core up to 365 and mem up to 335 w/o artificating so i run mine at 360/330. i've heard people claim to get the core as high as like 390. so you just have to play with it yourself. shoot high and bump your way back down till it's not artifacting.

It was weird. I bumped my core to 340 and my memory to 330, and I dropped about 0.02% on 3dMark. Not enough to make me think it was real (I run them one after the other, the only thing I did in-between was O/C the card), but I was kinda expecting a different result. I run a Viewsonic VX900, and my processor is embarrassingly slow. Thanks for the advice, I'll try your timings and see if I'm successful. Is 3dMark2001 a decent bench for judging effect?

EDIT: At 360/330, I went up 0.5% over default on 3dMark 2001. Doesn't seem like much

how does one overclock a 9700pro?

is it only software that does the works? i see you mentioned rage3d tweaker, where can i get this?

or do you oc it using hardware tweaks?
