Doesn't work like that. Settings others are using are irrelevant because each CPU is different. It's called the silicon lottery. My chip may do 4.8Ghz on 1.25V and yours may do 4.3. You never know.

For overclocks up to about 4.4ghz on that CPU all you need to alter is frequency and vcore. Turning off C-States may be helpful also.

What do you mean not going well? There could be a number of factors including temps, psu, voltages, etc. Generally volts and clocks matter the most, and power saving options come second. If your chip doesn't want to clock high all other things considered, then it's probably just your chip.

Your not giving us anything to work with here, volts, multiplier, cooler...?

I sent my first chip back to the seller due to multiple issues with it. I'll report my findings when my new chip arrives. Long story short tho, temps were fine. I have a cooler master n520 I was using and never saw temps over 50c. However, I could not do 4.0 ghz at 1.3 volts without prime95 crashing almost instantly. Going down to 3.8 yielded some better but still crashed after 5 mins. Not sure if its my mobo or the chip I had.

Uhh, if the CPU worked ok at stock, then you shouldn't have returned it. Overclocking is never guaranteed (even for CPU with unlocked multipliers).

That is considered RMA fraud.
There is/was intel enthusiast service that lets you return a cpu if it doesn't satisfy you with overclocking potential, but its for premium enthusiast CPUs. I don't think pentium is included

Before you guys start assuming I'm trying to fraud someone, you should know I was the one who was the victim of fraud. I bought a used g3258 which was told was a great clocker. I then found evidence in a g3258 thread that the chip was an awful overclocker, which was posted by the seller. Not only that, but when I removed the chip from the box, the lid from the cpu fell off in my hand!! When I confronted the seller, he says he forgot to mention to me that he delidded the cpu. The core temps ended up being far apart once I started overclocking and my guess is because the lid wasn't put back on right by me, because I've never delt with a delidded cpu before and would have never bought one.

Edit: seller received the chip back today and refunded me promptly. This seller made the deal right and in the end that's what it's all about.

We do tend to put the ass in assume once in a while.

Some G3258s do tend to be dogs, though, just be warned that not all of them will OC well as was initially presumed by many (like me).
