Overclocking celeron 366 @ 550 on a HP no go!

Ok, im upgrading this guys computer (HP 4535) using my old celeron that I KNOW will run at 550 at default voltage.

His computer uses an old 810 mobo, SUPPORTS 100mhz fsb through jumpers, and uses pc100 sdram.

HOWEVER. I cannot get passed the windows 98 loading screen. The computer doesnt "lock up" because there is movement on the lower part of the screen. The computer just refuses to finish loading up windows. I was able to use his restore cd while running at 550, but not load windows.

I removed the old stick pc100 just to see if that was a problem, which it wasnt. I just have NO CLUE. This is why i hate pre built systems

Try increasing the voltage a bit (I know you said it worked at default in your PC, but..)
Also, this efectively overclocks the videocard and all other components unless his motherboard automatically changes the PCI "divider" from 1/2 to 1/3 as you go from 66 Mhz FSB to 100 Mhz FSB.

Try a different videocard just in case. Also, pull out all PCI/ISA devices.

Also, try disabling the L1 and L2 caches through BIOS, this will tell you if that's what's causing the problem if it works fine with one or more caches disabled.

Finally, don't overclock an HP or any other pre-crappified computer, it will void the warranty! (I am proud that I am the only one who seems to be able to spell the word "warranty&quot. Getting inside the case voided the warranty, by the way

Well, the mobo supports 100mhz through jumper, and it doesnt have any divider jumpers (and the bios is the most ghetto bios ever, VERY little options, and nothing that i could use) So im assuming that setting the jumper to 100mhz bus (its either 66 or 100) that it changes everything accordingly. Also, ill look but im pretty confident that there are no voltage jumpers since its a OEM mobo and everything was designed to run at default.

Heh. And the warrenty isnt effective anymore, too old, and the only thing im really overclocking is the cpu, which i dont use otherwise. And what they dont know cant hurt em

I was thinking that it probobly needed the voltage increase. But what i dont get is that the computer never LOCKS UP hard, like it has allways done for me if the cpu cant handle it. The loading screen animation still runs like everything is all good, cept there is no HD access and it just quits.

Im thinking about booting to dos and installing a dos game, then testing out how the cpu handles it, since i can run in dos ok but cant get into windows.
