Try to return it... obviously, you've tried upping the voltage. If it won't even POST above 638, I doubt more cooling would help.

I spent WEEKS looking for a place with a reasonable return policy on CPUs. Finally found one with only a 5% restocking fee, and their prices are dirt cheap. Oh Canada!

Tell us a little more; what motherboard; checked over the Bios settings carefully? It could be something simple.

Well, most C566s require quite a bit more voltage to reah 850MHz stably. Mine requires 1.8V to do 850MHz, but at that voltage its 100% stable. I see that you're running 1.65V at 566MHz. May I ask why you're doing that? At stock speed, the Celeron should run at stock voltage, which is 1.5V

I've been wondering about my setup too....

I just put a 566 w/ GORB into my BX6R2 with an Abit Slotket. I'm running at v1.80 and it's completely stable, but I seem to have temp. problems. My CPU is at about 53C under load and my motherboard is at about 35C. I've got my RT2 thermistor crammed into the fins of the GORB and it reads about 37C. Does this seem odd to anybody else. I feel like 53C is a little hot, but my GORB at 37C is a little cool. I'm wondering if I've just exceeded the thermal capacity of my GORB and that is as much heat as it will dissapate, or could my generic RS thermal paste be the problem.

Would anybody else be comfortable at 53C under load?

53C is a tad high, but its still within comfortable limits. Processors are often made to withstand extreme temperatures, so that they can be used all over the world under most conditions. Of course, if you overclock it and increase voltage its wise to apply enough cooling and reduce the temperature, but personally I think anything below 60C under full load is ok, that's just me, coz I live in a hot country.

Are you sure you applied the thermal grease (whatever type you're using... radio shack or arctic silver.. etc.) correctly? Because the GORB should be able to perform a lot better than that... and perhaps i read your post wrong, but why do you have the celeron 566 running at 1.8 volts.. it should run at 1.5 volts at its default setting as someone pointed out before... For comparison, i have my celeron 566 at 928 (FSB 109) with the GORB and arctic silver on a BE6-II and a ABit SlotKet!!! and its only about 40-42 full load... on average and at idle its about 32... Just my 2 cents...
