Hello all

I recently got my new system!

My System:
Motherboard: P5B Deluxe
Processor: E6300 (Stock Cooling)
Memory: G.Skill F2-6400PHU1-1GBHZ (2X1GB)
Chassi: Antec Sonata (V2)

What ive done so far is to update the bios (0507). Im really excited to start overclocking, but i dont know at all how to do this. Maybe, if someone really really nice out there can write a short step by step guide on how to overclock my cpu with the current stock cooling i have (i'll buy better cooling in two weeks).

Ive done some research, but it is so much out there, i dont know where to start :/
I would be very thankfull for a simple step by step guide, an example or similar. Im not sure of how far i can reach, what settings etc.

Thanks / Mozillauser

I have almost the same config as you but generic memory

Someone please post a quick beginners guide to getting our E6300 to say E6600's level of 2.4 Ghz. I wish I was a more l33t hax0r.

ok nice . I played around a little bit, however i only reached 2247 Mhz.
Im a total newbie , i've read the manual (rtfm rule), but i cant find the Multiplier settings. Where is it located?. Im also looking for a lot of things mentioned in other posts.
bold marked in this list are the things i honestly cant find, or connect with in the menus.

update bios 507
lock pci 33
lock pci frequency 100
disable both EIST" and C1E
disable virtualization
increase your vdimm upto 2.3
set your memory divider" at 1:1
disable hyper path 3
up voltage on northbridge to 1.65
up vcore voltage to 1.6

There must be some asus specified overclocking guide, with an simple Intel processor ;P.

I have that exact Motherboard and my E6400 is pretty similar.

Do this...

under CPU options menu turn everything to disabled
Put your memory at 5-5-5-12 (in the northbridge chipset menu)

The following are in jumper free configuration
Put your FSB at 400Mhz
put your PCI-E clock at 100Mhz
PCI at 33.3Mhz
Memory at 533Mhz(1:1) which will run it at DDR2-800 speeds
memory voltage on 2.1v
CPU Voltage on 1.3625v (to start)
every other voltage setting remain on auto.
disable spread spectrum

This should get you stable in everything at 2.8Ghz CPU.

Run a few games and benchmarks and see how it performs. Run prime on both cores (orthos) for a few hours and see if it gives errors. If you crash or get errord put the voltage on the CPU up to the next notch which would be 1.375.

If you're 100% stable you have 2options. Increase the FSb and see if you are still stable (effectively increasing your memory and CPU speed) you may have to adjust the voltage higher on the CPU to keep stable. Or you can try lowering the voltage to get better temperatures on the CPU. If you aren't stable after lowering the voltage then move it back up.

They didn't even mention ANY of the BIOS settings they adjusted or turned off or on to achieve this. They didn't mention voltages or their cooling setup either. I didn't like this review. It seemed to be just a slap in the face to Gigabyte users saying "look how we can max out our FSB to 520Mhz+"

thanks cmdrdredd, really nice of you posting how to do it.
and yes, the review did not tell that much of what i could read yesterday.
Ill try this out later tonight, perhaps i can give you a shout of how things are going .

Thanks again

The new BIOS is beta so it's not on their site. Apparently from some other forums I read the 507 bios had issues with overclocked FSB and giving problems with certain memory/timings/voltages.

yeah they release new BIOS all the time. Now as a quick note I am running my memory at DDR2-1000 at 5-5-5-18 so far no issues to report...gonna give it the old stability test later. I'd love to do DDR2-1200 but these Corsair XMS2 6400 seem to dislike the 400Mhz overclock even at 6-6-6-18 and just won't post. I didn't expect it to and I've never had memory overclock by such a large degree.
