That motherboard isn't for overclocking. I wouldn't recommend anything above a GTX 1050 for playing at that resolution. You'll need to look for used motherboards on eBay.

Please suggest a motherboard

Also, with an nonOC Q9550+1050 still be a great pair for 1080p games like FarCry4/Battlefield/Overwatch/Outlast2 @high settings.

Ty for reply

1) Are you in the US?
2) Is there a particular reason you're trying to game on a dinosaur of a machine?

I'd suggest buying this instead and drop in your HDD/GPU.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optipl...4GB-250GB-HDD-Windows-7-Pro-COA-/311849589645

I'd also recommend an SSD boot drive, then install either W7P or W10 using the CoA code. Much, much faster than what you're considering and honestly not much more expensive than hunting down an ancient motherboard that can overclock (and likely has leaking capacitors, etc at this point).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I bought one of these machines from this auction earlier this week, offered $90 and it was accepted. GL!!

I've got to say that I agree with the above post. There is no point in sticking with a Core 2 Quad these days if you wish to play modern games at high settings, even if it is at 1600x900.

What's your budget if you have to do a complete system overhaul?

To the OP, before an edit to one of your posts you gave a link to ebay.in for the motherboard, which tells me that you are from India. What is your budget if you are interested in a used PC?

I just retired my Q6600 and Gigabyte motherboard with an 8800GT a few days ago. It was a backup machine for years of loyal service. The Q6600 ran @ 3.6ghz in its glory days but after it become outdated I turned it down to 3.3ghz.

I really thought this was an old thread from years ago that was revived. I checked the first post date thinking it was an old thread 7 or 8 years old revived by someone. Sadly, this is a new thread.

I've still got a pair of Q9300 rigs, with 260X 2GB cards in them. They can play older games.

Still, a modern G4560 rig with a GTX1050(ti) pretty-much crushes the Q9300.

That is what I replaced (G4560) the Q6600 with. I had an old 7950 sitting in the garage for over a year and put that in the (NZXT S340) new box. A 240GB SSD and took the heatsink out of the 775 machine and put it on the G4560. Transferred the HDD as a backup drive etc. etc. etc.

I just sold
Q9550
GTX 1050
DG31PR
4GB RAM.
Also, the buyer had monitor ( 720p )

Now I have about $450
What would be a good Mobo+gpu+ram+PSU combo.( Own a 1600x900p monitor)
Mainly for gaming.
How about :
G4560
GTX 1050/Ti
Gigabyte GA-250M-D3H
HyperXFury 2x4GB

Note:
The new build should be able to survive 4-5 years with maybe cpu/gpu future upgrades
Prefer Amazon.com.

PS: Not from India , the suggestion eBay.in was from another forum given to me.( Deleted now/

Thanks!

Are you in the US or a different country? If in the US, consider a second-hand Sandy/Ivy/Haswell quad OEM system, add an SSD/GPU and possibly a new PSU and you're set for quite a while.

I am getting these two offers

i7 4790K + MSI B85M G43 + CM 212
About $390
OR
I7 4790 + GigaB85 Gaming + 8GBDDR3 + 1TB HHD + GTX 750 Ti Cheap CM Cabinet
About $545

I'll buy the first one with PSU and RAM , the. Later add gpu and a better cooler . The MSI Mobo is it OC capable ( will buy an LC later too)

Guess I'll but struck with Japanese Visual Novels untill the upgrades.

Prices are okay considering where I live , still higher then US thought.
Thoughts?

Not sure why C2Q is obsolete. I just ran CB r15 and I got 360 CB points, which is what an Haswell i3 would get.

If an Haswell i3 is good enough for 2017, so should an overclocked Q2Q

My Q6600 is clocked at 3.6Ghz with DDR2 800.

Because it's not just about performance (even though a C2Q would lack the instruction sets of an i3 haswell and would get creamed in many tasks). It's about the bigger picture. Parts, drivers, old standards, outdated chipsets etc.

Agreed that folks shouldn't spend money in 2017 to buy C2Q or spend money upgrading their existing C2Q - but if you are already rocking a overclocked C2Q, I would use that as a second PC rather than tossing it out. I use it for HTPC duties and games.

I've been happily gaming on my overclocked C2Q Q9450@3.5GHz for years, but now that I've started playing Fallout 4 I'm really seeing its limitations. For most other games, I get FPS 10-20% below reviews with my GPU (Fury X), which is usually far more than playable even at 1440p. In Fallout 4, I frequently see FPS in the mid-20s in towns and areas with a lot of stuff on screen. Combat in these areas is a slide show. Heck, just walking around in a city with a lot of junk and some fire or weather effects can bring it below 20 FPS. I'm (not really) sorry to say I can't wait to get my hands on an ITX AM4 board so that I can put the Q9450 our to pasture. It has done its job admirably for nine years, but time has indeed caught up with it.

Bad idea. No overclocking on B85 chipset motherboards. You'll need a Z87 or Z97 chipset board if you want to overclock that really nice i7 4790.

I always wanted to find a Q9450 to swap out for my old Q6600, but the prices were always too high. Great CPU.

FWIW turning off godrays (not low, but OFF via .ini) and other CPU-intensive features works miracles for older CPUs. The game still looks nice, but is so much smoother.

Using C2Q as the main machine in 2017 is pretty rough. I have it paired with GTX 1060 for HTPC and light gaming duties (light as in Assassins Creed type third person action, emulators and other third person adventure games). The machine works great with madvr and I have no problem playing most of my couch-friendly games at 60fps.

That's a glass half-empty look at life. I'd say using Core2Quad as the main machine in 2017 is pretty miraculous. My CPU is soooo close to nine years old! That's crazy.
