Overclocking guru`s please advise? celey 400@600?

I curently am trying to get my celeron 400 running at 600, it runs fine at 2.3 volts buts I get booted back into windows after a minute or two (sometimes freezing)after running 3Dmark 2000.

I haxe an ABIT BX r2 a FDP heatsink, and a think layer of Artic Silver...the idle temp never gets past 38C, even while I am surfing on the web.

So do you think maybe increasing the voltage to 2.4 would be prudent?
If so can someone explain how to do it?

heat is not the problem the mendocino core tends to have trouble hitting 600

Well you are one of the lucky ones to hit 600 Mhz. That is about the top for that core. You might try a larger fan or watercooling. I built a duct from the top of my Alpha and put an 80mm 40cfm Sunon fan on it. It bought me 5c lower in temp.

The 400 to 600 was pretty rare to begin with, one question, you misspelled something in the post, was it supposed to be a thin layer of grease, or a thick layer?

Oops, I meant it was a thin layer of (large contact area) Artic, I have tested the stuff many different ways and thinner was definatly better.

I am probably just going to get a retail C566 and overclock that anyways.

tboner--you may also want to look at a 633, not much difference in price, 950 looks like a pretty good bet.

Well, I know that 566@850 is a much safer bet, plus any bus speeds past 100 I might be able to get would be considered a bonus for me.
