overclocking without a partner is definitely not recommended if it can be avoided, invite a friend, and her friends too if she has some that are open-minded and adventuresome, njoy some libations, titillate that processor, make sure things are plenty sloppy with loads and loads of TIM (bonus points if your name happens to be Tim or Timothy ) and just have fun with an of-age enthusiast >-|-

LOL! I did not expect a post like that from you Idontcare. Someone must be having a good day.

over clocking a p c can make it faster and more reliable in the long run but is it worth the try ,, to that i say no
folks don't try it definitely not by yourself
if gone wrong it could distroy your pc beyond repair and a total loss
Amazing post. Completely wrong but amazing.

You can buy a core i5-650 on ebay for $60. With it you can build a system one hell of a lot faster than anything else under $100.

Yep, OCing is easily worth it, especially in CPU bound gaming for me. I find it necessary actually for BF3 MP.

Yeah, IMO, it's free performance so why not? Now obviously some don't want to bother with the hassle of dialing an OC in, or don't want to bother with more heat / noise - but if you're okay with it and are willing to put an hour or so into it, why not. Free performance.

While I like overclocking, it's probably nowhere from achieving free performance, the overclockers must have in general way more expensive hardware. The unlocked CPU, higher grade motherboard, probably also stronger PSU and RAM, and ofc some aftermarket cooling. It's not that expensive as it once was, but also the gain from overclocking is way smaller. If there would be unlocked i3 and I could overclock it to 4.5 GHz on H61 mATX mobo with transcend RAM sticks and stock cooler and being powere from 350W generic PSU than it would be free performance acquired from overclocking.

Overclocking used to be worth it when you could do it with cheap, low end Hardware. A Sempron 145 overclocked and unlocked to Dual Core could be a HUGE difference on that part. Money that would usually be distributed in an average Processor on an average Motherboard, could be instead distributed to slowest Processor with X feature, above average Motherboard and aftermarket cooling (Assuming that the Processor didn't came with overpowered cooling like Conroes).
These days, the vast majority of people got more Hardware that it is possible for them to use (Say thanks to bloatware for the otherwise). Besides, overclocking is already restricted to more expensive parts that are quite more powerful than the low end, that is also usually more than adequate. So basically, overclocking right now is both expensive AND much less notorious. No game change.

General software (like Windows) used to show a noticeable improvement with a good overclock. Games were the same.

Now that Windows doesn't push systems that hard, and anything graphics intensive can be pushed off to a video card, we are pretty limited in what will actually show a difference.

I overclock for the fun factor, and I think I can see a difference when doing video editing.

Why not? I bought a $600 CPU that is sold unlocked and is begging to be shoved hard. In any grunty game (Far Cry 3, Crysis 3 etc) overclocking will give you a few extra frames, slap the GPU up some more and voila! 10%+ extra performance for a bit of work. If I didn't want to fiddle with my hardware I'd have bought a crappy console.

It is mostly the fun factor. I had a blast just overclocking my 7770 to insane +200mhz core +150mhz mem. Now, yes, it degraded the memory and now it will not overclock past a +50mhz on the memory and +50mhz on the core, but that was my first time, I've learned.
There is a risk to it, but there is a risk to watercooling.

I don't know why people only knows how to OVERclock for the fun factor. If its just for the fun and not to meet a performance target, you may as well undervolt and underclock, because it is as fun and less risky. I had fun going for the power efficient way, looking at how performance scales down while reducing power consumption and fan noise. And the best part, is that in order to do it, you don't need a big expensive aftermarket cooling, a more capable Power Supply, a Motherboard with powerful VRMs, heck, you don't even need to pay more for an unlocked Processor for doing all it, neither.

Yea, sure, free performance is not worth it. (that sentence's got issues)

Indeed

Yes, yes you do, but it has nothing to do with the fact you overclock. Sorry, this just isn't your day

this forum is called CPUs and Overclocking

Oh you and your penchants for "details" and so-called "words" that are supposed to have meaning in a dictionary sense

Words having meaning is so over-rated. Hello! Its the 21st century, if it is spelled correctly then it means nothing. 8nt u n2 twtr?

:sneaky:

That defies the laws of physics.

When has physics, equations and reality ever gotten in the way of magic and the ability to explain one's observations with a buttload of questionable myth?

You are literally killing dreams here Haserath. Does it feel good? Do you feel good about what you are doing here dream killer? Let the magic live, not everyone needs to grow up to find out the easter bunny doesn't exist, OK?

Why would you post such a thread with such wrong notions?

Because this is Sparta?

Overclocking is like having the ability to increase your penis size.

i used to have 3.5 inches, now i have 4.4 inches. i don't know about you but my women are all satisfied. although it does get quite hot during boogaloo .

gotta use those icy condoms to cool it down
